Observation - Does Saturday equal Shopping?

I think everyone knows that when it is Saturday it is time to hit the Stores or at least some people make that connection. I noticed that on all the Blogs I had read today and just know its normal to go shopping on a Saturday. Is that good? Or is it how we were programmed to think? Does it affect you? You also have to keep in mind Garage Sales, Yard Sales are all done mostly on Saturday as well...Do we go shopping because that is our day off and the only day to get things 'done' even if we really do not need to go Shopping?

Anyway just some thoughts....

I don't. When i worked, I had to work nights (3-11) and every weekend, so my husband started working weekends too. If I ever took off to go to the mall it would be Monday or tuesday.

I think it's just because thats when the all the 9-5 M-F's have off mainly. I prefer to go on a monday or a tuesday myself because then you can find all the markdowns on sale items that didn't sell over the weekend The grocery store accross the way is known for their markdowns. As I got some oscar myer turkey salomi for $1.25 for the 1lb pkg & it doesn't exp for 3 weeks!! SCORE!

Though I love going to rummages as well. But since my dh is on the wrong end of the week we haven't gotten to go in some time. But with gas prices what they are it costs alot more to do rummaging as well.

Yeah here on Monday's there are half tag days and usually .50 tags on Thrift Store Clothing, Items etc....

Saturday is errand morning for me. Sometimes I do errands after work, but usually Saturday morning. Sometimes it's getting rid of things or getting things for free: balckberry picking, recycling, taking stuff to Godwill. Other times it is shopping: garage sales, grocery. I have Saturday and Sunday off; I prefer to get as many chores done as early in Saturday as possible so the rest of the weekend is mine. I know others who "play" Saturday and do chores, like laundry, Sunday. It's always confused me.

nope I dont I go in the week I work weekends but growing up my whole life saturday was shopping day for my mom but it was also the day my dad gave her money so guess that was why we went saturdays

During the summer I go yard saling every Sat., very interesting prospective that we are programmed to shop on Saturday. I try never to go to the mall no matter what the day but I am out at 8am every Sat. to get the latest yard sale bargains. I try to buy clothes, toys, household things during the summer at yard sales so that I don't have to shop at the mall during the rest of the year.

Saturday and Sunday are definitely our shopping days. That's when we usually grocery shop and do other shopping. DW and DD will sometimes hit Target or Wal-Mart after school/work but I rarely step foot in a store (other than a supermarket) any day other than a weekend. We will do light grocery shopping during the week for perishables (veggies, mostly) but do our bigger grocery runs on the weekend.

I'm the opposite. I never set foot in a store on Saturday or Sunday -- precisely because weekend shopping is the the routine (or the recreation) of the American consumer. Even when I was still working full-time, I preferred to do my errands in the evening. If I had to shop on the weekend, I made a point of being at the store when it opened and out before the parking lot began to fill.

In retirement, I benefit from the convenience of shopping after the weekend. Others have mentioned the savings on markdowns following the Saturday/Sunday crush. I also find stores restocking at the beginning of the week, and I get my pick of the freshest produce, baked goods, and dairy products.

Not necessarily. Today (Saturday) we shopped (for groceries) because the supermarket was right across the street from where we took our vehicle for its quarterly oil change, and you know, those who want to be frugal will combine their errands to save gas. We typically go in the evening when it's less crowded.

I try to avoid shopping on weekends. My shoppidg days depend on my work schedule and the sales days. I like to stop by in 3-4 different stores on my way home, get all the good deals. On my way from work I pass Safeway, Longs, Walgreens, Ritead, BigLots, Raleys and 99c store. So I can get my shopping done on my way home without wasting any extra gas. I personally don't like to shop for clothes and other staff, but I like to shop at the grocery stores.

Yep I do most of my shopping on Saturday, as I work M-F 7:30 to 5, but I try to go in the morning when its less crowded. I definitely try to go to Wal-Mart at off-times. Except between Thanksgiving and Christmas when you cannot pay me enough to shop at Wal-Mart during that time of the year.

Since I work M-F and don't shop Sundays, Saturday really is the only day I can do things. I try NOT to go to Walmart on Saturadys, but it's either that or on the way home from work one day...and it's really busy then. Since I haven't been grocery shopping in two weeks, I haven't missed the store at all and I haven't spent any money, nor left my house the last two saturdays!!

There are somethings I can't avoid doing on Saturday. It's the only day I can take my dogs/cat to the vet, mornings only, else I have to time off work to do it. It's generally the best time for me to get a hair cut (generally only twice a year), an oil change, tires rotated, those kinds of things. If I really want to hunt for something around town, it generally has to be Saurday too. So for me it's because I work. If I didn't then I would never shop/spend on the weekends. I avoid crowds if at all possible.
