I HIGHLY recommend you do not put Utilities, Bills, Plasmas, etc...into your Children's names. You will ruin their Financial state and also Karma will not like you to much.

Well I never thought of that, i guess they could use their kid's s/s#! They could ruin their credit score when they got older.

It's called identity theft and whether your children or not it is against the law.

Most children feel funny pressing charges against their parents though.

Crummy thing to do to your children.

Very common amongst Asian cultures since in such cultures males of the family are supposed to pay the family back for upbringing.

I can not believe parents would do that!! I don't know what I would do if my parents had even thought of such a thing! I could see it as plausable though, epecially if they shared a common name...grrr...may the bad karma get you if you do!!

that reminds me of my friend... when he was too young to know better his parents borrowed some money in his name and spent it all and then moved to Vegas, leaving him and his sister here to fend for themselves... they ended up moving in with aunts and uncles and when i met him he was paying his way very slowly through college while working 1 1/2 jobs and being in the marching band... he was in marching band (where i met him) because they help pay tuition and he would only take as many credits as they would pay for and use his work money to pay his other living expenses... poor thing was always dog tired and was only a junior after 7 or 8 years of school... it was horrible...
i think he still owed the money too... i do know it destroyed his relationship with his parents.. ugh.. i hope bad karma gets them...

Why would anyone want their children to be in debt? The main reason why I am saving and saving is so I could give some to my children when they are ready to move out, or if they are ever short of money.

Re: Word of Advice - Do NOT place your financial burden onto your Children

I work for a church and also control the Salvation Army money in our local area, and believe me people put their bills, electric, oil, car loans ect in their kids or aging parents names all the time. They know mom or dad "isnt all there" or they offer to take over "caring" for them and pay the bills for them... and then they rack up their bills including credit cards and then when they pass away, the kids walk away. Half the time the parents never even know.
We just helped the state move a 16 year old girl out of her home to another part of the state (abusive parents) and when we went to set up accts in her name she was already 35,000.00 in debt, her parents put credit cards, electric bills, cell phones ect.. into her name, over the course of two years. She was devasted when she found out. An attorney who attends our church is trying to get it all cleared up and out of her name for free.

We finally had to make a rule, when someone comes to me with a bill they need help on, the persons name on the bill has to be standing in front of me with a drivers lic or state ID. There are so many people who do this it isnt even funny.

I am grateful that I don't have parents like that. I have no intention of leaving my children huge wads of cash as inheritance but on the other hand I will not leave them in debt either. Hubby and I plan to be to SKIers. Spending Kids Inheritance.

When I was married to my exdh, he was in the military and we lived on base. There were SOOOOO many people we came into contact with who had their utilities shut off then said, oh wait, we have 3 kids...we're good to go!!! Instead of paying their bills, they drank all the time and alot smoked pot, etc. It was something that had never even OCCURED to me, and to alot of these people it was common practice! Not only is it horrid to put your children into debt, but I can't believe these people feel no moral obligation to do the right thing!

I have never even heard of this! Why isn't this issue addressed out in the open more? If that happens to you, how do you get the debt erased from your record?

I see people do this with phones all the time I dont know about other items they do it with but I know some people do it for a fact because the name on the caller ID will come up as the kids name or someone elses name!! I think that is terrible I wonder how they get by with this heck I had a hard time getting my bills in my name when I first moved out on my own I was young & had no credit history but I had bought a trailer just couldnt have a phone in my name to start out without a cosigner same on electric!!
