Re: Pesky neighbours, co-workers may actually cost you

Do you think that if you sneezed in his food....
I know, I know, mum would cuss me, even box my ears for saying this.
Ima, we put up with so much for money. Is it worth it?

I am going to live in Farmington, Mi. Its a low-coupon area and I have to work extra to get coupons. The apts are a nightmare. Wont be going out this soon. 1.5 months' rent off, no deposit. Will **I** ever see this money? Nope!! Will I put up with terrible neighbours? YES!!

Ima - hit the next town over or shoot the next county if you have to. Consider it a nice romantic ride!

Or get creative w/those homecooked meals and do a romantic picnic at home. Spice up those nights!

Ima, Lux, It seems that Mr.Pest KNOWS that no one can stand him. He, by offering you the contract, is buying his company. Pathetic!!!
(You could be my neighbour for 5 years and all I would say is hello and good bye. Branded a recluse, I keep to myself because of my work and I like solitude.
Hubby is a bit too social for my taste. Good to know that you and your spouse are on the same page at least !)

Re: Pesky neighbours, co-workers may actually cost you

My next door neighbor has from Day 1 treated our yard an extension of hers. She does not speak very good English, so confrontations about it have not gone very well.

She plants things in our yard, I gave up on asking her to stop a long time ago because really it is kind of nice of her. And we have enjoyed the strawberries she planted very much!

But she also insists on trimming the hedge that separates our two yards, and not only does she not do a very pretty job, but she tramples the flowers that WE planted.

She also gives unsolicited advice about which of our trees needs to be pruned and how much.

I know she is well-meaning, so I haven't had the heart to ask her to STAY OUT OF MY YARD! But I do know that the next time I buy a house, I'm having a fence put in right away!

My neighbor was a teenage boy that stayed up all night and left the outside flood lights on all night., They shined right in my bedroom windown. We asked his grandmother to please make him turn out the lights at night.
We put up with it for 10 years. He left them on all night, on purpose. Then he dog would get lose and come to my yard. He would chase it and step on all the bushes and break them. He never got a job, just hung around to torment us!

Re: Pesky neighbours, co-workers may actually cost you

              * We have a neighbor who's dogs have the run of the neighborhood. They are big shepherds and they have snarled @ me & tried jumping on the neighbor lady while she had her two lil toy poodles in her grasp. Nonetheless everyone's yard is their toilet!

*we also have 40 something neighbors that socialize w/ each other it's the end houses on each end of our block they all socialize togeather. Instead of walking up and down the road they use those lil mini crotch rockets & home made like ones to cruise up & down the road! So do you think they go into work when someone asks what they did all weekend do you think they say "Ya it was like so cool to ride my big boy power wheels up & down the block" from a 40 something man! PATHETIC! if you ask me & I'm not even anywhere that old!

*we used to have a neighbor with a vicious Rot & the neighbor boy would always ask dd to come to the fence to talk & PET THE DOG! I'd tell her no not today as I'd like my child to not be missing her fingers or her hand for that matter! Heck when the dog thought the boy (3ish) was playing he kept trying to get after the boy he was holler'n for the dog to stop & no "parental" like figure even stuck their head out the door to see what was the matter. As I could hear him hollering from inside my own house! Let me tell ya when I head the dog died I did a happy dance!

                Oh, shelby,
My heart goes out to you. When you are the mom of two kids, the neighbours do matter. How long can kids sit home and play inside?
We had a neighbour from a different country. she believed that hse could drop by and borrow anything she wanted. Her husband expected mine to chauffeur him around until their car was fixed.I was, one week , busy preparing for GREs and she came by. I hadnt vaccumed. She told the entire neighbourhood. Three wks later, I got several letters of acceptances from good schools, all with scholarships and hefty TAs. I told my neighbour that I was studying so hard , i did not have the time to vaccum. You should HAVE SEEN HER FACE...
She assumed that i was the kind that just sat around and watched TV all day!
The new apts seem to be full of such people according to a firend who moved from there.
Now that i have a kid and a cat, things are that much harder!

Dogs can be a big problem. Mine stays home in her own yard. (2 acres) I take the little one out on a lease only. I have had to pull her up many times when big dogs came rushing up. I have had blood running down my legs from the neighbor's dogs jumping on me trying to get to my little poodle! I am so glad he and grandma (and the dogs) have moved away after 10 years!

Try comming out of your home being into your 2nd trimester of pg & turnning around to see one of those dogs right behind ya! I about wet my pants! Lucky all you had to say to the bugger was GO HOME GO HOME! & eventually they'd turn around and wonder back to their own yard.

Thankfully the lady's son is moving to MONTANA YEA 4 the Neighborhood! (he's a looser, but that's another post) & he took one of the dogs with him. Unfortuantly not both.

Our yard is 3/4 of the way fenced, I've been holler'n @ dh to get a fence up so we can let our dog off his leash or chain & do his thing & I can let the kids out in the yard to play in peace for the most part.

Ya know theres only one other dog that isn't on a leash & it's the neighbors accross the street whom we love & their dog is so well trained he doesn't leave the property unless his master is with him!

I did call ther sheriff about it & the disbatcher was like so can you give me your adde & I'll have a squad meet you!?!?! WTH????!?!? No thanks I can give you their address but I'm not going to be wearing the big spot light that says it's the young couple on the block who turned us in. kWIM?

Re: Pesky neighbours, co-workers may actually cost you

I have three large and apprently scary looking dogs...I don't think so, but people are intimidated by them... (are alaskam malamutes really that scary looking?)...I am very careful not to offend my neighbors by them. I am really grumpy about all the people that let their 'little' dogs just rome the neighborhood...it's wrong people!!! Dogs no matter the size or how nice they are 'suppose' to be should not be out take a dump in other people's yards!! If I let mine just wonder they'd have the police out there in a nano second! I peacefully keep my mouth shut though....just in case mine ever get out. I want to be on people's good side.

On a funny side note...most all evenings I leave my front door open and the dogs will sit on the front porch...fully gated in, they can't get out, but people can see them. I've noticed that those that walk around in the evening...almost always walk on the other side of the street??? The dogs don't even so much as bark, or move, maybe...maybe wag their tails if someone looks their way. If they have dog with them they sit up and really wag their tails hoping to play....but I've noticed as the summer has gone on...there's more traffic on the 'other' side of the street... Guess I don't have to worry about neighbors getting too close to my yard!!

Now for the part that translates into money:
                        Getting a fence : $30.00
Getting a chain lock for door : $7.00
Having your home and yard to yourself: Priceless!

Belive you, me I've been nagg'n bout that fence for the past few years. But because I keep telling him I'd like a "white picket" fence, though it's out of our budget & we can do the cheap thing from Menards & some stakes he want's to get me the "white picket" fence. *sigh* I know he means well but we'll be ok w/o it! *L*

I would love to be able to fence my yard, but it is big, but the main problem is the creek. all the dog has to do is walk down into the creek and walk around the other side of the creek. We have a lady with 5 dogs that visit my yard a lot, but that is ok as long as they don't attack either one of my dogs!

Re: Pesky neighbours, co-workers may actually cost you

I just found out that a lot of myneighbors think DH and I are anti-social snobs. I guess it's because we don't sit out on our front porch steps like many do, but we don't smoke like they do, and our house front gets no shade b/c the tree died and the new one jsut isn't big enough. The fron to f the house cooks, so I keep the shades drawn and DH, when he was working in town, left for work by 5:15 Am. He'd get home and come in to change and then we'd go to the gym together.

When we first moved in, we were virtually ignored. I mean, ignored to the point that we were trying to set up the digital camera to take a photo in front of our townhouse and it was cold and windy, so the camera kept topplingover. A neighbor was walking by and said, "what the heck are you doing?" so we told him and he laughed. Didn't offer to help, didn't stop walking, didn't introduce himslef -- nothing!

Fortunatley we have met a couple of nice neighbors, but just yesterday met one 9seems nice) that said, wow, you're so nice. We all thought you guys were just reclusive!

Whatever happened to welcoming a new neighbor? Sheesh!

(I did initally go around and introduce myself to a few, apparently, no one remembers).

                                Dear shelbylovesmelby,
Just acouple of weeks ago some on nearby, in my neighbourhood put their fence on the curbside. You can try freecycle.org and craigslist. You can register for two-three counties and then look for fences. ( You knew that!: I will back off).
                                Ima,
Its tough when you have two acres and a CREEK runs through your place. But the view must be grrreaat!
