  • When is it time not to be frugal?

I had a friend who was having chest pains and he was so worried about the cost of seeing a doctor (I guess rightly so since they are already in debt up to their ears) that he was thinking about not going in at all and hoping the pain would go away. I finally convinced him to go by explaining that the bills are going to be a lot more expensive if he didn't get teh condition taken care of right away.

When it comes to my health, I tend to seek out the best advice I can get even if it costs more. It is one place that I tend not to be frugal. While being in debt is not something I want, it is still better to be in debt than dead in my opinion.

I agree. We don't scrimp on healthcare either. If one of us needs to go have something looked at, we take care of it.

We buy the big bottles of water for a dispenser. Around here, you cannot drink the tap water. It's disgusting. For a while we used a Brita, but even that wasn't so great. So we spend $26 a month now on water. I justify it as a health expense - we all need to drink plenty of water wach day, and when I don't it brings on my migraines. I'd much rather spend $26/month then have yet another migraine trigger out there.

Along the same lines, I always go to the dentist when I even think there may be a problem. I just can bear having my teeth hurt for one, but experience has shown it will cost a lot more if I don't have the problem taken care of right away.

I think health is one of the most important things not to be frugal on-whether it is paying for health insurance, goign to the dr.

For example, I need to lose weight. I am going Weight Watchers I need the accountability to help me lose. I buy the multi week pass so it come to $10 something a week to attend. For me that is worth it. Hopefully losing the weight will make me healhtier in the long term.
