  • Being frugal with your TIME

    Hi Guys,

When we talk about saving money we often talk about doing things yourself - such as cooking at home rather than getting take out food.

However, what about ways that you can save TIME?

Generally speaking, I like being efficient, organized, and well-planned out. I also like to keep things simple without compromising effectiveness. That helps with the efficiency.

I don't have a million accounts from several different companies. I have one site that I log in from, and it lists all of my accounts there.

I only use one credit card most of the time. It makes it much easier to keep try of my expenses IMO. That also automatically shows up when I log into my one financial site.

All of my personal financial records is located in one cloud site (Google Drive, but really anything similar would work) and since I use Android smartphone, my financial data is accessible pretty much anywhere so long as I have my phone with me.

In short, everything is simplified. Everything is centralized. There are no redundant overlaps.

I admit I am also one guy. People managing families would have a much hard time I would imagine.

Edit: I guess it's not just finances, but I also keep my personal space as organized as I can. I have a space (dresser) dedicated to just work stuff. I have another one just for home and workout stuff. At home, I have just one computer to run on. I only have one phone, and that's it. I believe in the philosophy of having a place for everything, and everything have a place. So, I think when your space is organized and clean, it greatly reduces not just the time you might waste on keeping it clean, but also time on finding stuff that would otherwise be lost in some clutter somewhere.

While I'm at it, I remember reading once how kitchen appliance companies would do motion studies on people using their appliances in a mock kitchen. They track their movements to find ways to make it more accessible and efficient. I don't recall the source now though.

I try to do as much at work as possible. Especially since they don't pay me as much as other Supervisors.
So after the day has completed in seeing Clients and I go to being with just one client. After she's asleep, I clean my car.
I also wash the organic vegetables I bought on the way to work which are in the staff fridge.
I sometimes pay bills. Do my ebay and amazon every shift-listing, taking photos, etc..

We are doing more stopping off while driving hitting 2-3 birds with one stone. So better planning.
Wait a day to get the mail when for we already need to be near the post office anyhow.

90% of the time I use cash so always have at least few hundred dollars with me. Saves time in budgeting, as that is all i have to spend for x amount of time.

I use print-a-a-calendar for my to do's, work shifts, meal planning, etc

      .
