Oh yeah, i was so surprised when i heard about this about 8 months ago. Would seem to make sense, just be sure, if you get one, to 'refresh' at least once a day.

I love the idea of this, and have used the disposable version called Instead to try out the idea. My problem is that at my work, the restrooms are not private-it's cubicles with the sinks in a common area. That's the only reason I haven't bought a Keeper or DivaCup. Now that I am on medication-The Pill- to prevent my periods from being so heavy and painful, I would reconsider it, if someone could attest to it being usable in the above situation. The site says "If you are still having your period and want to reinsert your KEEPER, simply wipe it (a tissue is fine!), and reinsert." Is it anyone's experience that they can do this, and that it's relatively tidy, so that I could do it in the above type bathroom?

You can bring wet paper towels in with you, but honestly I prefer not to go that route. If it is a private bathroom (as opposed to stalls) I'll deal with it, but otherwise I don't.

That said, I can usually go 8-10 hours without doing anything, so that is something of a plus for me.

When they calculate savings, they say a woman would spend $4/month on pads or tampons. I hardly spend $1/month due to free samples, rebates and coupons. I usually go and get free samples from ob.com or playtex.com. http://www.playtextampons.com/products/tryfree.html undefined

Something else to consider if you're at all curious about using it - it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Use what you normally use when you're away from the house, and use the keeper or Diva Cup (made of silicon instead of rubber) while at home. It's a good way to cut down on waste, make your disposable products last longer per purchase and try out the cup to see if you like it.

Travelling with one is great! You don't have to figure out how much of your supplies you need, unless you use a liner as backup.

Besides any savings, I like the idea of less disposable stuff. Not just to save the environment, but since I like less clutter, that's one tiny box to have instead of stockpiled cheap tampons in the cupboard.

Since The Pill, my periods may be light enough to attempt them. Prior, it would not have been an option (bad days equalled a super ultra an hour!).

I think I'll try my Insteads that I have left next cycle, and if I'm low volume, take the step.

You are absolutely right about the all or none thing not having to limit us. I was reading a Vegan brochure a long time ago to tell people how to mildly recruit (I'm not vegan, but a close friend was at the time). The idea was if someone said, "I'd like to go vegan/vegetarian but I could never give up (ice cream, bacon, eggs) whatever, that you could say, well do it except for (ice cream, bacon, eggs. That freed my head up. No, I didn't go vegan, but I did realize that I could commit to something quite a ways but not do all of it.

I ordered one and am waiting to try it out. It looks good enough. I think I'm going to jump on the 'try it out' boat...not the 'total commitment' boat until I'm sure. I wonder why I've never heard of anything like this before.

No way! I took the IUD route...birth control and I get my period once every 4 months or so and only for a couple of hours to a day or two.

One time visit to the doctor and no more worries...and then in 5 years back to take out and replace.
