ticket to ride!

i was talking to one of my senior neighbors down the street today... she said she donated her car to an organization and they take her value of the car balance and drive her around to appointments, shopping and joy rides. until the balance is depleted, even at night they pick her up... has anyone heard of this???

Yes, I read about that, I think in AARP. Even after they have depeted the value of the car they will still pick you up and take you places and wait for you, for about $10 a ride. Volunteers do the driving. I think that is a wonderful idea. We are building a house for a lady in her 80's. Her son is blind, so she has to drive herself. She just got her car totaled out when she pulled out in front of someone.

That is such a fantastic service. My city neighborhood has a large percentage of elderly, some of whom have cars but rarely drive. I bet if they knew about such a program, some would be glad to take them up on it. On the otherhand, a lot of them still walk to the grocery store, and I'm sure that helps keep them healthy. But there are more distant places anyone needs to get to as well.

Does anyone know what organizations do this?

Darn, I just read about it, but I throw the aarp magazines away after I read them. I bet aarp would know. It was just in last months magazine.
