I do try to hang out my clothes as much as possible.... whites usually go in the dryer but everything else usually goes outside to dry.

Have to hang dry in Japan...no space in the homes for dryers and energy costs are several times what they are in North America making drying very expensive. The worst is during the rainy season when you can't hang them outdoors and if you do indoors, they get a moldy smell.

The only thing that I really miss about dryers is having the lint taken off. Taking lint of by hand is a pain and too time consuming. Other than for items that produce a lot of lint, I don't think I'll ever go back to using a dryer.

I don't hang out my clothes. I probably should, but it is so much easier to just throw them in the dryer.

I would love to hang clothes and towels, but my SO won't allow it...I guess there is a bad mental image or something, don't know what it would be.

My parents used to live in an area that had CC&R's - you know, all the houses have to be one of 5 shades of brown, lawn patrol to make sure everyone's yards are tidy, that sort of thing. The people who lived up the hill behind my parents actually complained that my mom had a clothesline strung up! Can you believe it?! It was in mymom and dad's backyard. Totally insane.

I line dried all of DD's cloth dipes back when we used them. The sunlight did wonders to bleach out spots. I don't hang nearly as much laundry now as I could.

I hang out all of our washing here. I have deliberately put the dryer downstairs in the garage - I have to go out of my way to use it - so far this year we've only used it once or twice. Mind you, here in NSW (Australia) we are in a drought, so maybe if it rained I would have used it more.

Re: Who here hangs their clothes to dry??

I hang almost everything to dry.

My indoor clothes rack (it was a million years old and made completlely from wood) has broken. The wood was rotting and falling apart. This month or next month I have go buy a new one ($10 or $20) maybe a few months away since Dh wants a saw and wood to build something or another.

When I do use the clothes dryer I use the cold setting only. (this will change in the winter 'cuase i use it to heat the house as well). The dryer uses most of it's electricity to heat the dryer.

I'm surprised at the number of people who hang their clothes out to dry. being in an apartment makes it very difficult to do except for light clothes.

I line dry about 90% of our laundry- only use the dryer when it's raining or too cold. In South Africa we have such good weather it semms silly not to use it- it's also very common practice here- you don't get neighbours complaining but you might find your washing has been stolen while you were out :-))

I hang mine both inside and out. Inside I have a couple of retractable lines that I use for items that are more delicate, or that I don't want a bird to soil or someone to steal. Everything else goes outside. Also great to have both when the weather isn't the best for hanging outside.
