bodybuilding.com has a bottle of 100ct 200mg caffeine pills for about 3 dollars. I used to take the pills but coffee has caffeine in it naturally and there is something to be said about the other ingredients in coffee have a synergistic effect, rather than just taking caffeine.

But it will wake you up and is great if you dont have coffee or access to coffee at that time

amazon.com: search: Jolt Gum. Try the blue box, it's much better than the green.

That sounds so dangerous to me. It seems like you can really overdose on the pills if you're not careful. I'm always careful about how many different pills a pop, whether supplements, vitamins, or medicine.

I once read a study that people who drink a lot of coffee (Sweden, Norway, etc) are among those who live the longest, so coffee can't be all that bad. Just drink in moderation and don't add a lot of simple sugar.

There are a lot of substitutes for caffine these days anyway. I recommend oolong tea. The Coffee & Tea Leaf sells an authentic version of oolong tea called Ancient Beauty. It has caffine enough to wake you up but it's still really healthy and green in general .

I know people have their biases against pills, but think for a second:

          1) 200mg of caffeine is the equivalent to 3-4 cups of coffee per day
          2) You will have no bad breath from the coffee
          3) You will save countless money on your monthly coffee bill
          4) You can cut the pills in half and take pieces throughout the day if 200mg is too much for you
          5) it's easier to regulate caffeine intake. some coffee might have 100mg per cup and others might have 20mg a cup. if you have 200mg of caffeine per day, like clockwork, you will always know how much caffeine you are consuming.

I've switched to taking caffeine pills instead of coffee and I couldn't be happier. gone are my days of throwing away $100/month to starbucks
To me, I really like the experience, taste, and yes jolt of coffee, plus limiting my caffeine intake to coffee is a good "regulator", as my body will say no to more coffee at a certain point. Which regulates caffeine too.

Popping pills starts a bad precedent IMO. Too easy to start popping pills for other things too, from other sources. I've personally seen lives ruined from pills, no caffeine pills, but harder stuff like painkillers.

Nothing we say will change your mind of course, but that's the way I see it.

@couponkingpeter: If you only get 5 hours sleep a day you probably need to cut down on your caffeine intake :-).

Seriously though. Caffeine pills for coffee?!? being Frugal should not be about being totally joyless. I suppose if I was really feeling the pinch I could face switching to a good instant coffee brand. Douwe Egberts or Nescafe Gold are just about acceptable for me...

I'm a coffee addicted guy. I would never quit drinking coffee either it's harmful or useful for the body.

                      caffeine

As drinking is an integral part of most meals, something must be said about today's drinking habits. Huge amounts of tea and coffee are consumed in the West and consumption is on the increase [as are many of the associated ills]. Coffee, tea and many soft drinks are stimulating drinks because of their caffeine content. But caffeine is a poison (the lethal dose is around 10 grams), and the "lift" it gives, lessening fatigue and brightening thoughts, is very temporary and far outweighed by its long-term side effects

                        needs my coffee

NetSkyBlue is right on. Coffee is so delicious. Why would you want to skip the most pleasurable part of getting your caffeine fix?

Definitely, since you are getting drugged, might as well get in the best way possible.

I take a caffeine pill before boxing practice. This is a good alternative from the energy drinks because you know exactly what is going in your body.

But that defeats the purpose of drinking coffee :P I like coffee because I like drinking it, not because I want caffeine.

I stick with green tea. It has a good shot of caffeine, is cheap and has lots of health benefits.
