  • It paid off being frugal with the heat this winter

I am in Wisconsin so we can have some cold winters. I refused to have a huge heating bill this past year. So I put plastic on the windows and used weather stripping. I also kept the heat at 60 - 99% of the time.

My budget billing was 82.00 a month for both electric and gas - for a 2 bedroom apartment. Most months I had a credit. I think one month I was 4.00 in the hole.

April 1 I turned off the heat for good. I do want to go and flip the electric switch too. Just have to make sure that is all that is connected there. I got my gas bill that ran from March 10-April 10 and it was 36.00. So now my credit with that and my electric useage is 11.00. I do expect to have about a 20.00 credit or so in the coming months.

I could not understand people who were running the furance at 68 or higher all the time. I hate to see how bad those bills were. Plus here in Wiscosin if you did not pay all winter and have a high bill. They start shutting stuff off on April 15. They also shut off both the electric and gas since we have combined bills. No Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, Savin4disney.

You have done well to keep your bill low, good for you!

I have no problem with heat in winter here as I am in the sub-tropic. I rarely use it at all. Our tempature is around 5 C to 30 C in winter. Summer 24 C to 42 C. We have what I call a eight months summer and six weeks of winter. The balance is just right.

But I do have rule about my Air-Con in summer. Tempature is run at 25 C and no lower. I only put it on when the tempature get to over 32C I like my tempature around 28 C and I can stand tempatures over that if there is a breeze.
