Try Costco! I went this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised at how much organic produce they had with still very reasonable prices. Of course this only works with a membership or a friend that has one, but it's worth a shot.

Also, I like to buy frozen organic stuff. It's cheaper but still good.

The points DS outlined were also recently expanded in a major report on Organic Foods since our weather results in huge levels of imported foods. The results surprised everyone. While there were no negative concerns about producers following the requirements demanded for the 'Organic' process, researchers found the end product likewise full of pollutants, manufactured fertilizer and metals. I didn't understand some of the scientific jargon but the point they made was consumers must soak foods in water + a small amount of vinegar for longer than had been suggested.

The problem is ground water and air pollutants move more than traces of pollutants. The reports from bee keepers expressed alarm. Bees are dying from pollutants but bees are moving pollutants during pollination. Even growing your own vegetables means using rain water is just as problematic as using tap water. I recall years ago marking papers about vegetables grown in Mexico. The facts were so repulsive, I've never bought anything identified as grown in Mexico. I work in PR China part of the year and you don't want to know the pollution that makes air visible and green.

Does that mean we need to stop drinking tequila?

I agree with the comments about Mexico. In general I try to buy organic produce, but it's more important to me that it come from the US, preferably local. I'll buy conventional from the US over "organic" from Mexico.

            Organic produce

In our area there is a local farmers market couple of times a week that great deals can be had. Also, we have a county extension agent in each county that is a great resource for who locally grows organic that might give you another purchase point.
