Re: What unfrugal thing did you do today or yesterday?

The most unfrugal thing I did today was to spend on my computer setup.

Bought a new hard drive. OK, but the drive I bought is the biggest Ultra-ATA drive currently made for the PC. It uses the new vertical data storage technology that's just being released. And while I was spending, I bought a powered USB hub.

I will now go over to the "What frugal thing did you do today?" thread and post about buying both items on sale and using a store gift card to defray part of the cost.

This dual posting is what's known as "buttering your bread on both sides without getting sticky fingers."

We went out to dinner yesterday after a Wake. Not much fun, but I didn't want to cook & neither did dh.

Also dh wrecked his suit jacket but we found one for 90% off @ k-mart, great find, didn't want to spend the $.

Bought new flooring for the entire house with interest-free financing for one year. I have used the interest free offers numerous times in the past and been successful in paying it off every time (52-in tv, sectional couch, computer). I know many of you are against that, but just like most anything, it is not a bad thing if you know how to manage it. We have plenty of money in our emergency fund and we will NEVER pick up more than one interest-free or interest bearing loan at a time.

We're also going to dinner tonight to celebrate since both my brother-in-law and I have birthdays this coming week.

I don't think it is a bad thing, just make sure you pay it off about a month early. They try and trip you up on the dates. I did it when I bought all my new furniture. However, they added credit insurance to my bill and I had to have that taken off. I paid them off one month early to avoid the big finance charge.

Are you aware that at least once a year, and more often if you do LOTS of laundry, that you are supposed to run it through an entire cycle on HOT water with one cup bleach and absolutely NOTHING else in it, no clothes, no towels, etc.

Whenever I do all the bedding to change from spring/summer to fall/winter and back again vice versa, when I'm done laundering all the blankets and bedspreads, etc., I always do this.

Your washing machine will last MUCH longer, with no lint clogging up the innards, and you'll NEVER have any smelly laundry - which might indicate that you've got mold spores growing or some type of bacteria.

Really, if you don't already do this Bleach-Water-Cleansing of your washing machine, go get a flashlight and examine just how dirty your washer currently is, and after the HOT water bleach treatment how sparkling white it becomes.

Also, whenever I do this, I always make sure that the next load I do in the machine is WHITES, because if there is any bleach residue whatsoever, it won't harm the whites.

I had to mail back my halloween costume. It was heavy, so it cost me almost $9 to mail it back.

I went to Mickey D's just to play the Monopoly game... I don't even like French Fries.

Threw a bed pillow away instead of sewing up the seam! It was only good enough for a dog pillow anyhow and their little cages are stuffed w/pillows now so no room in the inn for the dogs if I put another pillow in there!

As a child of depression era parents it is so hard for me to throw something away without feeling guilty. I know the feeling will pass by tomorrow but I hear all kinds of residual parental vibes going off in my head right now! Oh well - tough! I don't wanna sew it! So so long, farewell, al-veed-er-zan, ka sa ra sa ra, etc., etc. Good Night and Good Riddance!

We went to visit three families today to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Neither of us bothered to bake anything so we bought three Entenmann's cakes to take as gifts.

hhmmmmm...spent $200 on a chair that my Mom was selling in her garage sale. This is a super nice recliner that originally sold for $600, has only been used for one year and is a very nice club style recliner that doesn't look at all reclinery. It's big and comfy and is just the reading chair I've been looking for for over 2 years. I just happened to go to her house when they had decided to sell it. Sooooo, it's going into my sunroom. Is this a frugal or unfrugal thing? I've got the money saved. It's a big purchase for me and one want I've been wanting fulfilled. On the other hand I saved $400 over buying a new one. Did I mention that delivery was free? They are bringing it to my house tomorrow as I took The Hubster's car to their house so there was no way to bring it home today. FREE delivery has to count for something. Also CashHappySon stayed on and will come home tomorrow, so they are feeding him all day today as well - which with his hollow leg is a savings.

Do I feel badly about this purchase? NOPE, not in the slightest.

Sorry, the previous post is disqualified as an unfrugal thing.

The economies cited clearly outweigh any extravaganze inherent in the purchase. Please repost in the Frugal Thiing You Did Today thread.
