I agree with Ella. Another thing about used computers is that their parts are much costly than new ones. I suggest that you buy a new computer and I suggest desktop computers as they last longer than laptops.

A desktop won't suit many people's needs. I use my laptop at home and at work and for travel - one computer that I'm able to take with me wherever I go. I have a desktop at home but that wouldn't help me anywhere else.

I'm also not sure I'd agree about the lifespan issue. If you take good care of your laptop and don't knock it around a lot, I see no reason why it shouldn't last 5 or 6 years just like a desktop.

Yeah, it really depends on what you need it for. If you are a very powerful/heavy user for a computer with sophisticated software you are trying to run, then a desktop can be a better option since they often have more computing power and are much cheaper than a laptop with comparative computing power. However, if you are needing portability (just moving it around the house, traveling for business or pleasure, etc.), then a laptop would obviously be the better choice. For what the average user needs in a computer, the computing power of a laptop should be more than sufficient. 5-6 years does seem like the norm for needing a new computer since technology changes so quickly and simple tasks become difficult with a slow or aged computer.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great times to get a new computer since they can be HEAVILY discounted. Try looking up Fry's, New Egg, Best Buy, etc. to see if there are any available that fit what you are needing.

I agree. Laptops are much more convenient.

I think for under $500 you should be able to find a good deal. Black Fri is fast approaching and you may be able to find something nice for yourself.
