  • Homemade Baby Wipes

I've been making the baby wipes from this website since my DS was born:
How to Make Your Own Baby Wipes

We have had slight (one application of zinc stuff each time it appears) to no diaper rash, and he is year old. It is also cheap!

I found that it works best for me if I do the following:
    • Use double rolls of paper towels. I have found Brawny double rolls work best
    • Lower the water to 1 1/2 cups
    • Use olive oil instead of baby oil, if you don't have baby oil
    • Cut 3-4 of the paper towel rolls at a time so you have a stash
    • put the water in the microwave for 4 minutes first...this will help retard mold growth. I haven't had any problem with mold growth, but some of the research I've done says people do have problems with it

Ive been thinking about trying this. How would you say they compare to store bought wipes?

I think they work as well. I make sure to use a thick brand of paper towels, and make sure you don't use too much water. The nice thing is that there is no alcohol, so if your baby has a slight irritation on his skin, it won't sting. Much more pleasant for them. Also, no need to be stingy!

Great, I will be trying this as I use up the wipes we have. What kind of container do you feel is best?

I use the large Folgers coffee plastic container. It says 2 lbs 2.5 oz on it.

I never really got the need to make homemade baby wipes. I did try making them myself several times but they were kind of crappy. I can't make remember the recipe it has been years.

You can get them for a decent price using some of the generic store and some deals on baby wipes and diapers
