I haven't tried it - but my sister (a nurse) says the docters use hydrogen peroxide to get ink stains out of their shirt pockets. If you try it, let me know if it works! (this is my first post, I signed up just to share this tip )

I'm a stain queen.
For ink use hairspray. That's right, hairspray.
Spray it on and let it sit a while. You'll start to see the ink "lift" to the top of the fibers. Then just throw the garment into the wash as usual.

Katwoman is right, hair spray works.
Another choice...let it soak a bit in rubbing alcohol, which will loosen most inks, then spray with Shout while it is still wet, and wash with a strong detergent, like Wisk. Don't let it dry until you are sure the stain is out!
Any cleaner with white petroleum in it works well, but not easy to find.
peroxide works on felt-tip type inks. For sharpie, permanent ink type, the alcohol will work fine.

Peroxide works great for getting out blood, too! Used it all the time in the lab.

There is something called Amodex - it's to my knowledge, the best thing available to remove many difficult ink stains.

This product is available Walmart, Kmart, etc., and it does work well. Here is their marketing blurb:
How to treat laundry problems with De-Solv-it® Citrus Solution™
When using any product with laundry, first check for colorfastness of fabric (in an inconspicuous area). Apply De-Solv-it® CITRUS SOLUTION™ to both sides of fabric and work gently to blot and remove. Rinse any remaining residue under faucet before reapplying and laundering. Apply TIDE® liquid detergent (recommended) on problem area before laundering. Detergent actually helps lift challenge and De-Solv-it® from colorfast material in wash cycle.
Basically the Desolvit dissolves the stain, but then you have to get the desolvit out. Soak in desolvit, gently use a toothbrush to help penetrate, and keep a towel under the fabric to help absorb anything coming through. I use Shout on the Desolvit myself, anything that cuts grease well works. You can hand rinse with detergent and water, and repeat if necessary. Launder/dry after the stain is gone.
I've done this on DH's shirt and pants. Even ones he's already washed and dried
[Also used it to get paint off of carpet, etc. Once the problem is dissolving, you have to blot it up quite a bit, but it's the blotting up with soap and water that really pulls it all out.]

Solvent-Sensitive Inks
(Ball Point, Markers and Felt-Tips) Sponge area around stain with rubbing alcohol (or cleaning fluid) before applying the alcohol directly on stain (to keep the ink from spreading). Place stained fabric face down on clean paper towels and apply more alcohol to the back of stain. Replace paper towels frequently. Rub stain using Wisk Liquid and rinse thoroughly. Wash with Wisk in hottest water safe for fabric. Note: Check a hidden seam for color change before treating with alcohol or cleaning fluid.
