  • huge savings for diy

Our little local hardware store wants $27 per window screen to replace the ripped screens caused by last months windstorms (even took off some siding, weathervane and tore up our airport sock at our weatherstaton the kids made)

    We have 6 damaged/ripped screens.

6 X 27 = 162 bucks. Plus a week for them to do it, meaning we cant open those windows for a week, so possibly running a fan as I refuse to turn on the ac or heat this time of year.

I bought a role of screen, which will fix all 6 and a little left over for $12.

$150 in savings. Took me about 10 minutes per window for what I have done so far.

Nice figure it'll take about the same time per window, and you're gettin paid $150/hour for your time tax free!

We were horrified last fall by the price estimate from our condo's handy man to remove and replace the screen on patio and balcony's sliding doors. A trip to DIY store, cut to measure mesh screening [they have it as a huge roll] and two rolls of spline cost abut $ 40. all in. The hardest part was getting the screen slider off the track which was solved with a tiny squirt of WD40.

The entire project took about an hour and we added $60. to our 'cost avoidance' column.

I bought a roll of nylon screen last year and never did the job. I haven't spent any time figuring out how to do it. These aren't like windows I've had before. Guess it would be on the internet somewhere, hmm?

Joan, try utube. My husband and I learned how to tile with utube. Watch several videos to get different perspectives. Good luck!

I thought screening was not easy, kudos!
Have sewn a bit of screen though myself over a fairly small (paw size) hole our dog made. He was trying to get to a bird near one of our 2nd floor windows.

DIY is great. People should however must be careful in doing projects that will fall apart after some time. Learning basic carpentry skills should be done in order to properly do a project I think is a must.

Great! I'm pretty sure I replaced a screen door screen once. It takes a bit of practice to get it on right, but well worth it!
