  • I'm seriously considering getting rid of the TV

    Hi

So, I own a TV, it is a big flat screen TV. I have it because there were two when I was married and I kept one.

My son, who is 4 watches his DVD's on it. When he is not with me, the TV is never on.
I never put cable, I have been cable free for 2 years and I have not missed it once.
I tried Blockbuster membership, didnt like it

    I LOOOOVVVVEEE the internet

Eventually I got an Ipad, love it too.

My son learnt to navigate youtube in about 4 miliseconds (even though he doesnt know all his colors yet...) He loves it because he can choose what to watch. (with my supervision always because with youtube you never know where you end up. )

Many times he is watching the big TV and asks instead for the ipad.
For DVD's I have the laptop.

So, why in heaven do I need a TV for?

Yes, I agree, TV is a big waste of time, IMO, and has become a large expense every month. In my house we like the news (we can get this on the Internet), and we like Sports - this last one is what keeps us having a TV. But, I could save $ 70/month ($ 840/year) by bagging my TV service. For movies, you can get Netflix for $8 per month, which will enable you to stream movies to your computer, and smart phone devices.

In any event, kudos to you for having made the effort to drop a superfluous service and save a lot of money in the process.

Just something to think about, since you already own the TV. Rather than watching internet content on your iPad, you could set things up to watch on the nice big screen instead. Connecting the laptop to the TV may be as simple as picking up one cable. You could also do something like Apple TV that would let you send stuff from the iPad to the TV for a one-time cost of $99 with no ongoing fees. That would also let you show your home photos and videos on your TV which is nice if you want to share things with friends and family who visit.

I much prefer the big screen on the TV. (We stream content to our TV - netflix, etc.)

BUT, if *you* aren't enjoying the TV, I certainly don't see why *you* would keep it.

Do it! I don't have a TV, and I get alone just fine.

I watch Netflix movies on my laptop. If someone is watching a movie with me, I put the laptop on the coffee table. It works.

I am a girl, but I like sports too, I have managed to watch main games via internet... Soccer and Basket are my favorites. Yes, depending om connection it might drag here and there.

If I didnt want to deal with that, I went to watch to a sports restaurant or bar. Possiblty still cheaper than $70/mo?

For a BIG fan it wouldnt make sense to keep it, I understand

Yeah...Since I already have it, I think I can still milk it. I like the idea of watching family videos/pictures on the TV, thank you!, Once I am settled I think I am doing this. I think being cable free is good enough for now.

The only problem I am having is that now my son likes to watch cartoons in youtube on the iPad and he sucks up all my gigabytes! so for a few days each month the internet is slowwwwww
He likes live youtube because he can interactively choose which viceo to watch next. (without calling mommy)

So cute he was tried to use the TV as a touch screen
