Here is a list of alternative uses for some common household items: dryer sheets, hair dryer, hand loation, cornstarch, petroleum jelly, coffee filters, salt, disposable cups, vinegar, wax paper, ziplock bags and chalk.
It's not really a frugal post but...
Another use for salt is when you go to restaurant and they put your glass on a coaster or napkin. Sprinkle some salt on your coaster to keep your glass from sticking.
Wooden matches and Elmer's glue will fill a screw-hole that has been stripped out - I have even reattached a banister to a marble wall whose screw holes were stripped out.
In college and beyond, we used white toothpaste to "spackle" holes we made in walls in dorms and rented apartments.
