I know a couple that did that and it killed both of there dogs.
I would have thought that was comman sence about the gas dryer.

You need to buy a special vent that catches the lint and empty it regularly. Actually, even if it is vented outside, you need to clean the vent and tube regularly. It can be a fire hazard.

And if it is a gas dryer, leave it be. Don't vent it inside.
