  • Question on Store Clearance Cycles or reduces gift cards

I would like to buy my son a second pair of snow boots. My son wears through cheaper pairs of boots before he out grows them so this winter I had to buy him a higher quality pair. I was able to find a very nice durable pair at Sears.

The pair I bought are still normal priced ($29.98), I was able to find a coupon code online to bring the cost down by 15% and online they are currently offering free shipping to store. So that is the cheapest route I have found so far.

How can I find out when the snow boots will go on clearance?

Or does anyone know of any current offers for buying reduced cost sears gift cards?

    Thank you.

I find that in department stores the sales people often know how soon something is likely to be on sale. So if you ask, they might tell you.

I found out that the lady at the cashier's stand at Target TOLD me without my asking, what day the mens' clothes went on clearance...you can sometimes obtusely strike up a conversation about the topic, without coming right out and asking it. I honestly did not expect her to just volunteer that information! In this case, it was on Wednesdays they mark down their mens' clothes. I got some excellent deals, like long-sleeve shirts for $1-$1.25. Good luck saving!

I asked the shoes salesperson when their snowboots go on sale. She told me that they never know. She said that last summer they had snow boots that were STILL full price. They did have some snow boots on clearance but they were all for girls. Why do they have 5 or 6 styles for girls half of which are on clearance BUT 1 style for boys but that one does not go on clearance.

The sad thing was the store was currently running a special that she failed to tell me about.

I left the shoe department and purchased my son a coat at the register in the automotive department. The cashier asked me if I knew about their friends and family event that night. He gave me an ad that said EVERYTHING in the store was 10% off that night from 5pm until closing. He asked if I wanted to wait to purchase the item. It was a clearance coat and I was not going to wait 2 hours in a store or risk coming back during the event and miss it.

I looked inside the ad and there was a coupon for 20% off apparel, accessories, cosmetics, and fine jewelry....from store openning until 5pm. So in effect when I ran up. I ended up going to a less busy and crazy register then returning the coat and rebuying it so I could use the coupon. Then I purchased the snow boots using the in flyer coupon of 15% of footwear coupon from openning until 5pm.

In the end, I spent the same amount I would have spent if I would have paid buying it online using the coupon code but I did not have to deal with having it mailed to my house. But all in all it was really a unsatifactory experience, I think that is why that is the store I really tend to make as a last place to go if I need something.
