Question about torn permanent AC filter

Hi all,
Brand new here (;p.. I have learned so much already!
I have an old AC that I want to limp thru the rest of the summer with. There is a permanent kind of foamy filter. I was washing it today and it tore in a couple of places..age, I think. I was trying to figure out how to patch it and get the patch to stay...sewing pantyhose on? hotglueing a couple of used dryer sheets? Any frugal ideas out there

Yes. Might be 15 or so years old.

whelp, my mom said that you should just be able to tape it.
