I got receipts but didn't have enough to itemize, so I ended up throwing them away.
If you have a lot of mortgage interest and other deductible items, it can be worth it. If you're like us and have very little interest and deductions, it just isn't worth the hassle of valuing the items and going through the rigamarole of itemizing them.
Yes I definitely do get a receipt!! We are hit very hard with taxes every year even though we have lots of deductions! So we need every deduction we can get. Usually they pickup our donations and they leave the receipt on the door...I just put in the amount I feel is fair.
If you desire to take a deduction on what you donate, then a receipt is a must. You never want Revenue to question you and not have a receipt for proof.
