  • 600 CD storage solution?

I have around 600 music CD's and they are well, around!
I was looking for cd drawers but they go for about $250 - $300.

I want a cd storage solution that
1.- Will store the 600 cd
2.- Easy to use, easy to keep alphabetically sorted. This is why I thought a drawer system would work better than a system where each cd stands on individual racks
3.- Looks organized, preferable you don't see the CDs, One more reason I thought the drawer solution would work best.

Ideas? How/where do you store your music CD's.
I keep them on the original boxes for the lirycs.

I keep them in CD books. I probably have about the same number and eventually all those cases are just a hassle. CD books are fairly cheap and can usually hold anywhere from 100 - 300 with the music book insert.

Burn them all into MP3s. That's what I've done with mine, although I have more like 16 CDs than 600.

We are currently in the process of converting our CD's to MP3's but when you have as many as us it takes awhile. I still would hang on to the physical disks though. I don't know how many times we have lost data or had it get corrupted. It pays to have back ups.

Yeah, 600 CDs... what is that, like a week or two weeks work of full time work there? However, once it's done, I think you'll really like the result though (assuming you don't have problems with some kind of copy protection).

I agree hanging on to the CDs as archive copies. I still have mine in the closet, but that would be a nice touch in a living shelf somewhere?

In the CD holder. It fits in one of the CD slots, so insert booklet then CD in the slot below.

We put all ours in books too. We recycled the cases and the books that came with them. Actually, we copy them and put the copies in the car and keep the master copy at home.

                    Recycle something

Do you have a second-hand shop somewhere near you? Or a charity store like Goodwill and Salvation Army? Bring some empty cd cases with you, find a piece of furniture and try it for fit. Then clean, sand, paint, attach new drawer pulls, whatever. Or just refinish an old bookcase, sand and paint to match your room.

i would really be careful about putting all your discs in those books, they tend to wear the cd and sometimes scratch them.
i too have around the same amount of cds as you, or even more. (my dad is a music buyer for a large company, i get lots of awesome sample discs before they arrive in the stores!) if i told him i kept the cds in those books he would physically cringe!
have you tried ikea? they have cheap cd shelves. not sure how much they would be in your currency, but they are around $40AU a shelf here.
My DF made our cd-shelves. if you are even the least bit handy with a drill and a saw you could probably make one yourself.
