  • My dh had to have a sprinkler system

WE spent about 3 grand or so on a sprinkler system last summer. The actual cost was low as he got a lot of quotes and also got a rain sensor etc. WE have a very large yard. He insists "water is cheap in out city" and he wants green thick plush grass. We are in Michigan where we only use it maybe half the year due to seasons, but I thought it was kind of a waste to run the thing daily like he does. Green grass was nicer than the yellow patchy lawn.
Also when I mow, he refuses to ever let me mulch, ever. So I have to bag which is more work than mowing in all seriousness.
He doesn't want our precious little shih tzu dog to get grass clippings on his feet in the back. (He also had our stamped concrete patio catered to accomodate this dog's short legs with more steps to get to the grass) LOL.
I say mulching fertilizes. He says it will kill the grass.

You are right. He is wrong. There are some lively forums on the internet for lawn care. Maybe you can find him one. Some people really, REALLY love discussing all the in and outs of lawn care---year round! And mulch mowing is not controversial at all. That kind of frequency of watering is controversial, however. There are opponents as well as proponents.

Mulching the grass is better for your lawn (and your back! bagged grass is heavy!).

Eh. If he wants it picked up instead of mulching, let him do it.

Watering everyday is overkill. You should soak it max 2x a weeek.

Sorry, DH needs to learn more about grass, watering, and Shih Tzus [they can jump onto a couch/sofa or bed without difficulty]. When groomed daily and clipped professionally, grass doesn't stick in correctly clipped paws.
