  • Weighing is a way to save on propane

    I just learned this today.

Ok, if you get a big propane tank filled (such as at your home), they charge you by the gallon. I assumed it was also the same to get a small tank filled. But it isn't.

When you fill a small tank, they charge you the same fill price regardless of if they have to completely fill it or just add a smigit.

They weight 17 lbs empty (the guy showed me where it states that on the bottle) and 38 pounds when full.

If you weigh it before you take it in, you will know if you really needed to or not.

I thought I could just get them "topped" off before DH fries the turkeys tomorrow. Instead, I have 30 lb, 32 lb and 28 lb tanks that we will empty.

I'm glad he told me--he could have made some money off of me.

I called the other places around here that fill the small tanks, and they told me the same thing--except for the RV place-they sold it by the gallon.
