K so I did it, I washed my oven with vinigar, it did great on the really bad really thinck stuff (I know really bad oven) but the walls were no better the vinigar wouldn't stick to them? and some of the streaks on the bottom are still there, amn I not leaving it on long enough or is my lack of elbow grease interfering?

I also use vinegar to wash windows works great and as opposed to jer dry in the dishwasher!! Alot cheaper than store brand stuff!

I am going to have to try that with my oven this week I used vinagar in my laundry to get strong smells out and helps with softening.

I have been told that it's easier to prevent spills in the oven than it is to clean it, so now I use a cookie sheet. Also if you clean up a spill as soon as it happens, it's easier to clean up. It's easier to clean the microwave right after you use it. For windows, I just use water & newspaper. Doesn't stink & doesn't streak.

I will be trying the vinegar on my oven. It will be much cheaper and not so hard on the lungs.
Princess Perky, I wish I could answer your question but I really don't know the answer.

The vinegar and baking soda would react together and you'd lose any benefit except the granules.

Theory has it that you can heat your oven at 250 for a few minutes to heat the vinegar into steam (door closed), but personally I wouldn't try that.

My MIL taught me to line the bottom of the oven with foil. Any major spills, just remove and replace.

i think her prob was getting stuff off of the side walls. id rather try that mix then those nasty smelly cans.lol i have not tried it yet, i have a new oven. Last time i cleaned the oven, my old house, i used vinegar and it was like ur prob, so i bought one of those pads, you poke it and wipe on the stuff inside it, its like a scrubber on the bottom but the top part, its like styrophome. it smelled bad to me.

heat the oven to get the nasty stuff off.... it's easier to clean when its warm

K heat and scrub thanks ., no smelly cans, though I am no longer pregnant, I am still nauseus (how do you spell that word!) So I can't handle the stuff.

ok I agree with the vinegar and baking soda: one is acid and one alkaline and so they neutralise each otehr. So when do you use which one??

Be careful with the tinfoil on the bottom of the oven...kitchen fires can start with this!
