My DS wants a pirate themed birthday this year, he will be three, don't ask kid has never been to keen on age typical.

I was wondering if anyone had any cute ideas fo making invitations or for a small favor. And als where I would find a simple picture to decorate a cake from. ( I have the bags to dot he decorating but I am not an artist!)

Oh and I have always thought that you had to buy black icing, anyone knw how to get it from mixing colors, or doI have to buy it?

how about making little swords out of cardboard.. all you would need is some old boxes from the grocery store...for invites you could check online for little pictures to customize and print your own off of your computer... oh and it would be very cute ot make a bunch of eye patches for the kids ot wear! out of paper or cloth...

you could also give each child a white hankerchief to decorate themselves with some fabric paints for thier head wrap. look through your childs coloring books for a simple picture of a pirate. go to the store and buy easter candy for the gift bags its about 75% off right now

Those are cool ideas, but he is three. and the guests are more like elementry (cept for the toddlers), I don't know much about 7-12 year olds (I figure the 14 year old wont play he'll be with the grownups) will 7-12yos decorate a hankerchief? (swords are not safe around the cousins!) (I don't know any 3 year olds)

I also found a site for aging paper think it is tacky if I use plastic bottles (lost at sea) don't have glass an don't trust cousins with glass.

        invite so far:
(centered and with fancy script on aged paper)

        Ahoy Matey
        You are hereby invited to
        WALK THE GANGPLANK

for the favors, how about including a couple of those "gold coin" chocolates! yummy!!
For a game, you can buy one of those fishing poles with a magnet and the fish, then paste numbers on the bottom of the fish and blindfold the kids so they can "fish" and see what they get for a prize...
