  • solar lites...inside???

OK. I have now had 2 people tell me they do this one.....

Apprently the outside solar lights now come in a brighter LED version. They also come as the type you stake into the ground or as lanterns that can be hung...

2 unrelated people have told me they use the hanging type for INSIDE lighting at night. In the morning, on their way to work they hang them outside to recharge. Of an evening, they bring them in. One lady told me she has no TV, her radio is also solar, so her electric bill only has a refrigerator on it.

    Different.

Interesting. I couldn't do that because either I'd constantly forget to recharge them or I'd hang them outside to charge and my dog would eat them. LOL

I have heard of people who bring them in when the power goes out but I never heard of someone who brings them to light the house on a nightly basis. That is weird! I wouldn't think you would hardly get any light out of them!

        huh, odd, but nifty.

I keep waffling over getting some....I figure the longer I wait the better light they will give off.

Home Depot sells solar table lamps, I just bought 2 last week for this exact purpose. They aren't bad, but the design of the lamps restrict how the light is able to spread. The solar panel is at the top of the lampshape, the portion that is usually an open hole. The LED lights are inside, below the solar panel. I put them on my deck each morning and bring them in when I get home. I use the one on a table near the foyer and the stairs. It's plenty bright enough that if someone came downstairs during the night that they could see, but not bright enough that it would hurt their eyes. I haven't figured out where the second one is going, but we're moving to a new house in 2 weeks...so I didn't really plan on putting too much energy into finding a place for that one yet.

This sounds like an excellent idea, especially if they are reasonably priced. We have a three bedroom apartment. I'm sure they'd be great for us (in addition to all the lovely Chicago street lamps). Here's to going green and saving money!
