It is illegal in NC!!!! No wait it is legal to have a kid at home but it is illegal for a midwife or doctor to come help!!! that is absolutly rediculous!! A home birth for a low risk pregnancy can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars!! I can not understand why on earth the government would ban this sort of thing, require a liscense I can understand (might not totally agree with but understand) but completly ban it?? what if you can't afford anouther hospital birth (even with insurance) why on earth should you be faced with either delivering the baby yourself or yet another huge bill???

For the first time in my life will be writing my repreesentatives, I cannot believe that they would ban one of the oldest and most natural things in the world!!

BTW anybody know where to get a crash course on how to deliver a baby?

That is rediculous! You know I had my daughter naturally (at the hospital though) and it is a really good experience for you and your child. My next Child I plan to have a Water Birth from Home. It should be your decision no matter what.

You could get around that by "delivering by yourself" and then handing the baby to the midwife. You can check into that.

can you go to a relative's house in a nearby state and bring your midwife with you?

you keep eluding to this baby stuff....are you having another little one soon?

I plead the fifth? Actually yeah, I am, 8.5 weeks, but I have had a few miscarrigaes so I am not shouting the news yet. But I certainly want to! And since you asked I wont lie. I am doing the mony research now. Better early while I remember all the questions I should have asked with my DD.

I found a woman who has had several home births here so apparently there are midwives willing to do it. But I would feel guilty if I was the one who caused her to get in trouble.

My first DS I had an epidural but my second I didn't I actually prefered the second, I knew what my body was asking and even though there was pain it had a purpose, and really wasn't that long. In fact the only reason I got one with my DS was the drs refused to listen to me, I figured if I was going to ignore my body I might as well shut it up.

On going to a relatives house I suppose it would still be cheaper but I am trying to avoid having to wake my kids up to go have a baby.

I mean nothing about the hospital birth really bothered me, the machines didn't interfer I was to busy having a baby, but they are there, and inviting my adventurous children to pester them, the only trouble I had with my second was before my DH picked my DS up for the pushing I was too worried about if he was ok to concentrate. (the plan was to have a friend with him, but it all happened a bit fast.) If I were at home, no fascinating machines, and I wouldn't even have to wake the kids up, or anything.

Not to mention I wouldn't get the looks (polite but still) of 'oh she's one of those mothers', when I look over at my new screaming baby and tell her, "don't worry I'm sure those nurses will finish up quick and bring you back to me, I wouldn't want to be pulled out of a nice warm (98.6) degree mommy only to be stuck on a table all alone for some poking and prodding either!" I was nice but from then on I got those looks and the "Aparently Mom wants to have the baby back" humph no kidding, My baby and I want it indeed.

BTW UGH I am still so mad at the government for refusing to allow a attended home birth in NC!

Please be careful with home births. My wife had a midwife when she delivered in the hospital. The placenta however was attatched in such a manner that it would not come out. They called it Placental Acretia(pardon the spelling). THe midwife was tops and she got a doctor there very quickly. My wife lost a lot of blood and almost went into shock. I was left standing in a numb and shocked state when the doctor said he might have to perform surgery to remove my wife's uterus.

Fortunately the doctor was able to remove the placenta and stop the bleeding. So please be very careful because complications can arise in a heartbeat.

I'd be careful with a home birth. I'm all for it if nothing goes wrong...but.....My high risk reg. went ok. My "ok" preg had a last second complication and almost cost me my youngest daughter.

Thanks for the advice I cetainly don't want to take any unneccessary risks, I am sory for anyone who experienced any troubles, but they are rare. and I am very low risk. Don't even have sugar troubles or whatnot. (2 perfectly heathy easy deliver kids and all.)
