depends on which one you go to. some stores are better for some items than others.
with that said, Dollar Tree is addictive! everything is truly a buck or less, and they carry just about everything. some things are deals, some are not, but the best bets they offer are:
gift bags (really nicely constructed, reusable, great looking)
picture frames (wood, ceramic, glass, in addition to plastic for the same price)
mugs and dishes (most of their mugs are HUGE and perfect for filling and giving as gifts)
cosmetics (over stocks from drug stores, individually packaged)
bath & body (think matching items, again for gift sets. i don't use them b/c they contain mineral oil/petroleum, but for those without my weirdness they're a good deal)

I second Tina on the Dollar Tree's Gift Bags. They are well constructed and don't scream that they came from a discount store.
The Dollar Tree stocks nice ceramic Holiday themed dishes at Xmas that I've used when giving people cookie plates.
Dollar Tree is also great for padded envelopes and packing supplies (padded envelopes are 2/$1)-- great if you're selling the occasional book or other small items on eBay or Half.com.
Although I've never used one myself, I've heard that their pregnancy tests are acuurate and much cheaper than those purchased elsewhere.Last edited by threebeansalad; 03-20-2007, 05:23 AM.

I also buy from there: tissue for gift bags, ziptop baggies, random kids stuff (this weekend I got sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, plastic easter eggs, girls hair accessories) mylar balloons for parties, scrubbie sponges, and more stuff that is a one time only kind of thing.

dollar tree always has noodle 2 for a dollar so I buy all my noodles there;-)
also if you buy something and you do not like it or it breaks right away they let you trade it for something else!
a tip a friend gave me is that if you need a weird size battery (those flat disc type) go to the dollar store and see if anything they sell has the type you need, that way you can get those spendy little batteries for only a buck

I don't know about best deals, but I always shop there for party supplies (paper plates, cups, goodie bags, toys), kids toys and books for the kids.
2 of the kids' favorite toys are from the dollar store. They aren't fancy by any means, but one of them is a toy car - I have picked up some pretty fancy looking toy cars for birthday gifts there. Throw in some coloring books other books, look like you spent much more than $3-$5.& I certainly haven't seen anywhere cheaper to pull together a goodie bag for a birthday. With nicer toys to boot...
Oh yeah, I also buy a lot of picture frames there. There is a lot of cheap crap, but I always search carefully through them all, I have found some absolutely beautiful/sturdy frames at the dollar store.

$1 Packing Tape ---If you do a lot of mailing check their tape, but be careful about quality. Sometimes you can get excellent, wide packing tape, but sometimes it is junk.
$1 Music --If you are willing to sort through the mishmash of CDs they have, you can find some interesting stuff. I have gotten Carribbean rock and pop, while my husband has gotten lots of classical recordings of various European city orchestras, which he says are quite good."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid
"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." --Frederick Douglass

oooh, i forgot about shower curtains and spray bottles!!! i definitely second that, daylily
personally, i've never had good luck with any dollar store tape. it always peels in half on me. BAH!
another thing: dollar general has great candles. they smell great, hold their scent nicely over time, burn well, etc. best value i've found candle-wise (way better than dollar tree candles, IMO).

Pregancy tests and ovulation predictor kits! I know they only appeal to a small segment of the market, but they're a HUGE savings. The cheapest HPT or OPK at Wal-Mart is still going to cost at least $5 each in a multi-pack.
Gift bags and bows are also a great deal!
