Ilove the dollar store. I use it to teach my little one (age 3) about money. He doesn't get much allowance but he can spend a dollar every month or so if he saves and so far he hasn't outgrown the stuff there. He is learning about value also. Some stuff breaks too soon and he notices (of course the loud stuff he buys lasts and lasts and ...)
I buy little stuff for my teenage grandsons like silly string and those balls that spark when clacked together. I have found cool toys there that cost more elsewhere. I have also found junk and things that cost more there like mixes for 88 cents that they sell for a dollar. I buy all my packing tape there now and it works fine. I buy bubble bath there and some shower stuff (I mean party shower) I make bags or baskets of stuff as gifts. I just bought Bible stories for in the car that my DS2 likes and they are the only place that sells a phone case to fit my DH phone for under 10 bucks. Yes it wears out in 6 months but I am still ahead. I like dollar stores. OUr local Family Dollar is closing so I am enjoying some really good sales there as well.

We do buy the disposable sippie cups there that are usually 3x the cost @ Wally world but I wish they came in the 9oz size
We usually also get our hair & tooth brushes there, pg tests, hard cover novels, calculators.

I use Dollar General. There is one 2 towns over (about 17 miles). Its worth my trip to go. They take coupons, and often I get stuff for free. Several weeks ago when I went in I got Sauve shampoo and conditioner. Their everyday price is just 75 cents, and I had 75 cent and 50 cent off coupons. So, I got several bottles for free, and some for 25 cents. We now have shampoo for about 4 months.
They also have good deals on their laundry and dish soap, and school supplies.

We have a Dollar Tree down here and it's great. They have everything that you can think of and good merchandise as well.

                    I second that!!!

I was just at the Dollar Tree today to pick up some notebooks, and I took a look around as BF was trying on sunglasses (he's picked up a couple pairs over the last few years from the dollar store that have looked great. He just tends to lose them frequently!). It always astounds me how many wonderful deals you can find. I think my only problem is that I cant get past the "it's only a dollar!" thing... because I walk out with 15 or so items in the end. hehe. So I have to go in with a list or a set item, or dont go in at all. haha. But I've bought in the past: composition books, cleaning supplies, greeting cards, toys, giftbags, and various groceries and snacks. I'm a great lover of the dollar store

I recently hosted a baby shower. I purchased all the decorations, disposable table clothes, themed napkins and themed dessert plates from the Dollar Tree and saved a bundle. From past experience, I wasn't too impressed with the sturdiness of the Dollar Tree disposable dinner plates or plastic silverware, so I purchased these elsewhere-- but the rest of the stuff was great

I bought napkins from them for of course $1. and the only thing I found different was the size. They were a bit smaller, but then who cares.

Cleaning supplies, vitamins, asprins, cold medicines, shampoo and soap.

Toilet paper you can usually get cheaper on sale at the grcery store.

I swear by Dollar Tree's mylar balloons. Their balloons last alot longer than Hallmark's or the party stores and are only a $1 compared to $3. My DH & I use alot of paper plates during the summer so I buy the 32 count paper plates for $1 compared to Sam's Club who had the same plates but a 250 count for $9.36. Doing the math you still get a better deal at the Dollar Tree.
I compare prices of the things I buy at the Dollar Tree to the other stores prices and put the difference into my savings or my vacation fund. It adds up.

Dollar Tree also had recent back issues of Ladies Home Journal and Family Circle for $1.

Normally this wouldn't be exciting except for the fact that LHJ had a CVS coupon for $3 off $15 purchase. Needless to say, I bought all available copies.

I used to be a Walmart regular. However, I am finding that Walmart has been steadily increasing their prices. Since I was hooked, I just shopped there anyway but soon discovered our local dollar stores. So, now the Dollar store is my first stop for anything. I go there because their inventory is constantly changing and I am sometimes surprised to see what comes in. And, it saves me the cost of driving out of town to Walmart which is a good 40 mile round trip so that would be about $6 for a tank of gas.
I tend to by pretty much a little of everything. Things like bandaids, generic medications, makeup, clothes, food, kitchen utensils, you name it.
For our 4th of July Picnic, I picked up assorted decorations at $1 a piece. They are plastic and will be tossed. And, I don't like to keep and store that kind of stuff anyway. So, I made a nice little party theme for a low cost. Happy 4th everyone!
