Thank goodness I am not hte only one who can't do dried beans! I have asked for advice, tried it, and succeeded one out of 5 times with dry beans! DH got a raise, and I gave up!

Ditto the need to amend list for financial straits.

OMG! I guess I'm just nuts because I can't stand canned beans! Gross! I HAVE to have dried bean...only exception, kindney beans. I like canned kidney beans, but every other bean I like dried.

One of the things that I absolutely will NOT do to save money is sacrifice being clean! I have to bath daily and have clean clothes. Everything else I can do without except being clean. There's nothing I love more than getting in the shower every morning and cleaning the filth from my body. I just can NOT imagine anybody NOT bathing on a daily basis....GROSS!

i won't buy cheap razors....i don't exactly buy fusion, but i get good razors! i tried to use the cheap ones, and they wear out faster than the good razors! plus, the cheap ones tore my face to shreds.
2nd, i will buy expensive shaving cream. not like$10/tube, but $5 is not a stretch.
i just like those nice, close shaves that feel great, and i am not in pain with razorburn.
i will save $ somewhere else.
also, i do not get generic bread, i buy saralee, or milk. i also don't use the generic toothpaste, i use crest, your teeth just don't get as clean!

I won't stop trying to get my kids and grandkids what they ask for for their birthday and Christmas. Sometimes it is a challenge and sometimes it means we skimp a bit other places but we love to see the "WOW" smile on their faces. I'd even eat canned veggies to do that and I HATE canned veggies!

I'm with you Ima. I just got DSL in December and what a difference. Of course, if I had to I would, but I wouldn't want to give up highspeed.

Things I will not do to save money:

                    1) Give up High Speed Internet
                    2) Drive a Minivan
                    3) Restrict Bathing (ewwwww)
                    4) Eat poor quality food
                    5) Not have adequate insurance
                    6) Live in a bad part of town
                    7) Get rid of my dog

Thats about all I can think of right now!

turn my heat down lower than 68 in winter
                      eat any expired dairy products

disconnect my DIAL _ UP! *LOL* DSL??? what's that it's surely not in my budget!

I will not get rid of our salt water fish tank- even though its crazy in water usage, and unexpected things we need to take care of it.

I will ALWAYS give a tip (to me you factor it in when you are planning to go out)- rude not too or rude to give too small of one.

I will not give up blockbuster movie pass or tivo. I know they both sound extravagent, but they save a lot of money when you look at how much we used to spend in date nights. This way we can just have friends over and no one has to spend the at least $8 dollar price just for a movie ticket.

There are some necessaties that I wouldn't give up either, but as long as we can afford these things, I will not cut them out just to save money.

I read another thread where members don't flush the toilet after going #1 until the toilet just gets plain nasty. I'm sure it saves a lot of money, and to each their own, but there is NO way I wouldn't flush the toilet!!!

I wont give up professional hair coloring. EVER. Too many bad experiences in the past... I would keep my heat lower in the winter, but BF refuses to let the heat dip below 65.

                                I will NOT..

~ give up steaming hot baths ahhhh! (tried it once and our bill went UP that month..lol)
~ let my parents ever be in need of anything
~ reuse plastic spoons (long story)
~ give up Kellogg's Rice Krispees in place of a "cheap" store brand (long live snap krackle and pop!)
                                ~ reuse toilet paper
~ eat shredded cheese from the Dollar Tree (icky stuff)
~ fuss at my husband for leaving his playstation plugged up and turned on all day while we're at work
~ give up going to the movie theater a few times a year

And my last "I will not.." ... I will NOT let myself get so consumed with saving for the future that I forget to enjoy the "now". Everything in life needs to be balanced to a point. Our future is not promised - and while it is wise to stock up for that day, I could never live for years and years in complete denial of present desires & wants (i.e. that pedicure with my aunt, a new video game for my husband when he hasnt had one in 2 years). I grew up watching my daddy's brother pinny pinch... he was sooo happy when he retired at 64 years of age.... then he developed cancer. Last April '06 he passed away at age 66 a week after the surgery that removed "98%" of the brain tumor. I will not let my impulse to horde for the future affect my ability to PLEASANTLY enjoy life with my husband and parents NOW (notice I said "pleasantly" and not "lavishly" ) I've been through too many deaths of loved ones - they can be snatched from you in a heartbeat.. My goal is to find that balance of control over money, cash flow, and resources to where I can freely pay my unavoidable life expenses (utilities, mobility, hunger, taxes), happily hold back certain resources for the possible future, and comfortably bring in things that makes my family genuinely happy now (life's little pleasures - an ice cream cone on the way back from a little league game, a plastic toy egg from the grocery store machine for my little girl, useless valentine cards for everyone i treasure, or just a new nail polish every now and then).
