The post about the Poise with Wings reminded me of a money-saver for women that I just recently found. It's called a Diva Cup. It is a reusable menstrual cup that is made of silicone. I have had it for 2 months now and will never go back to pads or tampons again. It takes some getting used to but after you do, you'll probably only need to buy panty liners and use them a couple of days a month. They say the price averages out to about 10 cents a month because it can be used for years.

LOL. This post will probably freak out the men a bit.

But thank you!!!! I have felt bad because my kids are in cloth diapers, but here I am throwing pads away like crazy every month. I had no idea there were any alternatives like this.

I tried it and I'm not totally converted...it 'leaked' a bit much for my liking. Maybe I was doing something wrong....but I have it if I ever need it.

That's too bad. I have more problems with disposable products leaking than I ever do with the cup.

It does not sound sanitary... you just washed out the cup after each use? Isn't the process messy?

My bad! I just read the other link and it answered my question. Its a new idea to me so maybe after the news shock wears down... maybe I will consider trying it.

Hey, if it saves money and is convenient then what the heck! I, as a fella, did not realize just how expensive a woman's monthly visitor could be. As I said in the last thread on this subject though.... 06:

I am surprised no one has mentioned cloth pads.....same concept of reusability, different format...

Here is one maker but there are several:

You could even use pieces of flannel and pin them in, or sew extra fabric into not-so-pretty underwear....

I know, though, that there are many who prefer things like the Keeper, etc, for neatness, but cloth suits me just fine.

Cloth pads are good too. I think women who have cloth diapered their children have an easier time making the leap to cloth - I know that was true for me.
