If you subscribe to any magazines and you have noticed that the renewal subscription fee is higher than the new subscriber cost -- just call the mag's customer service department and ask to be given the new subscriber rate. For example a renewal of your subscription might cost $20 but a new subscriber might pay only $12. This has worked for me on every magazine for which I have asked for this discount.

It makes something that I enjoy a little more affordable.
