We gave $200 to our own daughter. I believe I gave between $25 and $40 last year to several students we knew that graduated. I don't even think it's required to give gifts unless one feels like it.My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

That's fine. That's different than her actually asking guests for cash or, even worse, putting something on a party invitation to that effect. Having her mom suggest cash is no problem at all. I agree. I go through this all the time with my mom when she is buying gifts for people - If you ask someone what they want you need to be prepared for them to say cash/gift cards.
