Forum question - private messages

Visitor messages are not private.

I believe you need to be a member for a certain period of time before you have access to private messaging. I assume this is done to prevent spam. I'm not sure what the timeframe is.

Thanks. Is it definitely a function of how long you've been registered, or is it tied to the amounts of posts you've made on the Forum?

I was able to send and receive messages the week I joined

That was June 2016

Amanda, what is the answer to the question, though? When can new users access the private messaging system?

I'm not sure of the answer to this. I thought that you could PM someone as soon as you signed up. I looked at the permissions, but there isn't anything obvious concerning PM.

Amanda - any insight on this?

I found the field in the user profiles that allows for private messaging. Somewhere there is a mechanism that enables this feature. It looks like Amanda switched this function on for OP manually. I'm not sure when this function is automatically turned on. It has to either be post count or time.
