Rachel Dolezal...the white woman who identified/posed as a black woman...broke and near homeless, lol.
I posted about this in the homeless thread.
I told my DH about this story last night and he said "just wait, that is going to turn into a thing." You have men identifying as women and women identifying as men. Not far fetched that more whites will rebel against the "white supremacy" in this country and start identifying as the minority of their choosing. That is what Rachel did.
But since the Government doesn't truly recognize her as being in a protected class, she can't sue any of the 100 employers who failed to offer her a job.
What irritated me about the t shirt (aside from the obvious stupidity) was that so many comments stated, "Oh, only in America!" "Leave it to an American to cry about it" and so on. This idiocy happened in the UK. Just felt like pointing that out.
Really? This was a known old school rhyme that had a very different ending for my parent's generation than mine.
Add that opening line next to a bloody bat, yeah, I can imagine it brings up some nasty thoughts from other generations. And yeah, it's not cool.
Call it snowflake all you want, I'm sure most of the people who buy this shirt have no idea the original context of the rhyme, but wholly crap that is an awful shirt.

Maybe it's a new line of clothing for serial killers

Just how old are your parents??
the American English version of this rhyme was found in “colloquial use in almost every State of the Union” in 1888. The lyrics printed in The Oxford Dictionary of Nursery Rhymes are as such:
Ena, meena, mina, mo
Catch a [N-word] by his toe;
If he squeals, let him go,
Ena, meena, mina, mo.
Growing up I never knew that there was a racist version of the rhyme in which the N-word is used in place of “tiger.” Yet, two sisters on a Southwest flight however did have knowledge of the version with the N-word. They unsuccessfully sued Southwest airlines when a flight attendant recited the rhyme in an attempt to get them to find a seat. Although the judge acknowledged that they rhyme had racist origins the jury decided in favor of Southwest Airlines.
In 2003, the courts saw how ridiculous the claims against Southwest were. Here are the two rhymes that supposedly caused " intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress."
"Eeny meeny miny mo, Please sit down it's time to go" and "Pick a seat, it's time to go"
1940's New England that was the common refrain. It may have originated in 1888, but it was in school yards for a lot longer.
I'm not saying the rhyme in its current form is offensive, I'm saying for people who have never seen Walking Dead a shirt that says Eeenie Meenie Miny Moe with a giant bloody bat can easily be misinterpreted.

It's about context.
I was aware that the rhyme had the racial slur many years ago AND I have never watched a single episode of that show. Had I seen the shirt without knowing the controversy, I would not have thought it was racially offensive. I would have thought that the shirt was a reference to a movie or something I wasn't familiar with. Would have been a great shirt for The Purge.
This story is nothing more than some dipsh*t religious nut wanting his name in the paper.
