  • Priceline name your price

I just started using Priceline to book hotels and used "name your price" for a rental car, I punched in 13 bucks a day and have reservations for that price, I plan to use it for the rooms on this trip too, I'm already seeing rooms that I can go as low as $35/$40 on, I had budgeted for $75/$80 roomsd

My buddy used priceline to get a hotel room for his wedding in vegas. He got the best price all right, but it was in a lousy part of the strip.

He was marrying this hot Eastern European lady who ended up dumping him several months later.

My sister uses the "name your price" pretty often. She has only been disappointed twice. Once because the hotel was not in the area she needed, and another because the 4 star hotel was a dump. Other than that, she really likes it.

          I've never used Priceline.

For hotels, I'm just way too particular to blindly let them choose where we will be staying.

We do have a trip coming up this summer where we will need a rental car, though. I might give it a try for that as I'm not picky at all for that. As long as the car is the size we need, I'm fine. I don't care which company it is from.

I always pick hotel brands/names ive stayed at before. Even then sometimes the hotels arent that great. I couldnt imagine letting someone decide for me based on how much I want to spend.

No thanks...im not rich but I have enough money where saving $15/night isnt worth sleeping with roaches and having crack whores greet me each time I open my door to leave.

With hotels, it's a combination of reasons.
                1. Location: I want to know EXACTLY where we will be. Is it close to the attractions we are going to see? Is it close to public transportation we plan to use? Is it next to the train tracks?
                2. Brand: We are Marriott Gold Rewards members. I'm pretty sure you don't get points when booking through Priceline. That's a huge negative to us.
                3. Exact amenities: Does the hotel include breakfast? That's a biggie.

Stuff like that matters a lot to us when we travel.

I don't think that would happen with Priceline. They are good about classifying their hotels. I'm mainly concerned with location. Somewhere like NYC or DC or Boston, even a few blocks can make a significant difference in the experience.

Not sure what the specific radius is for their name your price deal, but when we checked out their website many years ago it was too large of an area for our liking when we were planning a trip to visit the in-laws.

There were definitely some options on the bad side of town that we weren't willing to get stuck at. Also, when we visit the in-laws we have several locations we have to visit. Having a convenient hotel location was a necessity for us.

These are all really good points. Location is a big one for me...especially when you're visiting some national parks and you're staying outside of the park. Sometimes theres not too many hotels and they can be really spaced apart. And also like you said...visiting nyc/dc...a mile or two can make a world of difference in terms of safety.

Breakfast is also usually a must for us. Just for the convenience factor. The amount of sugar I consumed last week at the hotel was horribly wonderful. I never eat that death cereal (lucky charms/fruit loops/frosted flakes) unless im at a hotel...then its game on!

This had me cracking up. I don't usually get the little cereals but my DH and DD look forward to them. Me, I hope for the little breakfast pizzas

I can eat cereal anytime. For me, it's all about the make-your-own waffles!
