Anything political needs to go in X section. They pretty much have a zwero tolerance over at slickdeals (they have podium section,) bogleheads and early-retirement.org. At least over at SD there is a section to discuss politics...im not even sure if bogle or ER have a section?
I don't spend a lot of time on those sites. Mainly just slickdeals for a couple of threads, but I don't branch out to other threads there.

With it being such a volatile topic, I feel that it either should be banned entirely or less strictly moderated. You have people from opposing sides telling each other what they believe in is wrong. Of course the tone is going to be different than whether you should pay off debt vs building your EF.

Actually ill change my stance and say that all politics needs to go from SA period. Even if it is financial related...it has to stop. It is a volatile subject...its impossible to have a discussion about politics without an argument...unless every person having the discussion shares the same views.

Im not sure if the entire election/current politics has anything to do with this (imo it does) but the tone/discussions throughout SA has changed. Ive been here for a while and cant remember a time where users were so opinionated about everything...and the attacks between members is at an all time high.

Its great to have discussions about finances and disagree and argue your point...but the "comebacks" you're seeing is something new. Those very petty jabs sort of comebacks. And these are coming from grown a$$ adults. There has to be a direct correlation to the things that have been jammed down our throats over the past year on every news channel...every news website, facebook interactions, etc etc...and whats happening here. I dont know how else to explain it since it never existed before.

I hope the mods take this seriously and put an end to political discussions. I cant be the only one who shares this view??

As long as it doesn't become personal, I don't view that as a bad thing.
To me, arguing is personal. Disagreeing is not. Arguing is telling the other person they are wrong. Disagreeing is stating your opinion and explaining your position without attacking the other person. They are two very different things but too many people can't manage to disagree without arguing.

You are not, for sure. I would love to see politics banned from this forum.

It is banned from other sites I participate in and it keeps things civil.

I can't say I disagree with any of that, although you have been here longer than I have so my experience with the site is much less. I personally always hated and avoided those threads on all of the sites I belong to. But the bias and digs were becoming very annoying to me, so I started to share my opinion. What I saw during the election were two VERY FLAWED candidates, but only one was getting trashed on here.

My preference would be as you suggested, total ban.

However, in the event that doesn't happen, I do think there should be an unmoderated section for those type of threads.

So by "unmoderated" do you mean everything goes? I would not support that at all. If people can't behave and treat each other with respect, it doesn't belong here.

No, that is not what I mean. The sites that I have seen use it still have guidelines, but the moderators don't hand out punishment for minor infractions. Stuff like racial slurs of course get dealt with, but telling someone they are ridiculous doesn't land someone an infraction or ban.

I wouldn't support that either. I don't want to be a part of a site that allows people to insult one another.

Well as a moderator that has been here for awhile and plays a part in the direction of the forum, I suspect you won't have to be a part of a site with an unmoderated section.

However, there are a lot of people that wouldn't take that as an insult at all. More so someone disagreeing with an opinion and thinking it is ridiculous. But this world has become so PC that you have to be precise with every single word you type or speak. It is ridiculous.
