      Playing!

Playing with your kids, walking your dogs and dancing to your favorite song are all fun ways to squeeze in cardio throughout the day - without feeling like you put in a workout.

Supplement your various cardio activities such as running, cycling or swimming with fun exercises like the above - and you'll increase your total calories burned each day, without spending extra time at the gym.

        The "55" workout
Start by doing one body-weight squat and 10 pushups. Rest for 30 seconds, and then do 2 squats and 9 pushups.

        10-meter sprints
Find an area in your gym where you can sprint for 10 meters. Once you've covered the distance, pause just long enough to inhale and exhale once through your nose. Sprint back and pause, this time inhaling and exhaling twice through your nose.

        Jumping-jack pyramid
Do as many jumping jacks as you can in 10 seconds. Rest for an equal amount of time. Next, do as many jumping jacks as you can in 20 seconds, and rest 20 seconds.

The easiest cardio exercise that take the least room and least equipment is Jumping rope. You can do it in confined spaces or out in the world. It gets your heart rate up fasted, cross-trains you in coordination; it works every part of your body and yet can be considered low-impact. Give it a shot.

I enjoyed running, until i realized that it wasn't the running but the hiking. I also enjoy riding my bike, it gets the heart pumping. When people think cardio they think intense workouts. But in reality a brisk walk around the block that gets your heart rate up for at least 10 minutes is sufficient to keep that vital organ of yours in shape.

I am currently doing the Billy Blanks JR (the SON, not the dad...) workout. I really enjoy it! It's a great way to see fast results imo. I used to do workouts that don't guarantee results until 6 weeks or later. But I think Billy Blanks jr is really talented. It's a money saver too because a lot of his videos are available in full online or on FitTv. I like the Cardio workout, the Cardioke (corny but effective, lol), and Burn it Up (Full). He also seems like a decent sincere person who really wants you to succeed in fitness. I saw him and his wife on Shark Tank and I hope they make succeed in their business as well.

Anything that gets the heart rate up will do the trick, my favourite is running although that hasn't always been the case!

Hmm, I'm surprised I've never made a response in here.

The absolute best type of cardio is one that engages as many of your major muscle groups as possible, and doing it as quickly and intensely as possible.

All of the major cardio exercises have already been mentioned (short of more recent concepts like HIIT or tabata). I would just say that if you plan on going fast and intense, you want to go about it as carefully as you can. Running (and sometimes even jogging) can be a risk to injury.

Bottom line, I like swimming (even though I really don't swim enough). It's a relatively safe activity for your body, and if you swim fast and hard, it's an excellent calorie burner.

Finally, please remember that exercise is only one facet of a multi-faceted strategy for improving health (and not just losing "weight"). A good diet and having good rest/recovery is just as, if not more, important than exercise itself.

I just thought of something. Actually, the best subjective type of cardio is one that you enjoy the most. If you hate swimming, for example, and prefer biking, then I would bike instead. It's more important to be able to stick with something you enjoy in the long run than to stick with something you hate.

You can't beat swimming : full body workout, easy on the bones and joints and increases lung capacity. Also few if any distractions when you're under water.
