So I'm in the estate planning process and my lawyer needs to see the deed to our home for one of the things we're trying to get done. We've looked around a fair bit and can't find the deed anywhere.
We're fairly scattered with paperwork but don't have a ton of piles or anything. I don't think we would have accidentally thrown it out; we have all the other stuff they gave us during the process and at closing, including a bill of sale. But I digress. If we can't find our deed, how does one obtain a new one? There has to be a way; I can't be the first one to lose their deed. I checked the city government website as well as the mortgage company's site, and I couldn't find mention of lost deeds on either one.
Any ideas?
