  • Need Health Care advice

This isn't exactly a financial problem but is becoming one, Dr bills are mounting and if he gets worse we will be in big trouble financially. I am hoping there is someone on here who can advise us on what to do. My husband has been sick since September of 09. He is tired, gets short of breath easily and has had some sharp chest pain. He has also experienced swelling in his legs and joint pain. He manages to get to work most days but that is it. Climbing stairs is very hard. He can't even hold the kids on his lap or pick them up (ages 5 and 6). We went to the FP and had lots of tests, all negative, tried an internist, went to a cardiologist, everything looks great, now at a pulmonologist and I need things to move more quickly. We have ruled out diabetes, thyroid problems, heart problems, PE, and alot of things I've never heard of. The pulmonologist wants to do a cardio-pulmonary stress test but can't find anyone who can do it on a 380 pound man (he has been over weight all his life). It involves an exercise bike and they don't come that large. We did a sleep study and it showed a very mild sleep apnea (he's had it for years) he is overweight and has been all his life, his iron is slightly low but that is also all his life (when it is normal he gets sick). I tried having him go off his vitamen supplements in case he was ODing on something (after all if he can't stand normal amounts of iron,...). The pulmonologist put him on an inhaled steroid and that helps somewhat. A couple months ago I asked him to rate how he felt on a scale of 1 to 20 (20 was August). With the steroid he is averaging a 5. Before that it was a 3 and we were trying to decide if we needed to update his will. Any advice? Anyone familiar with the symptoms? Anyone know how to find a lab that can handle an obese man (and yes he is trying to lose the weight)
