Question About College Accreditation

I'm looking for an accelerated online bachelor's degree program in accounting. I have found a few schools that I am intered in. I want to make sure that I go to an accredited school, so the credits would transfer to a regular 4 year college or a college for a masters degree (if needed).

I'm confused to what accreditation I should be looking for. There are so many different accreditations, that I really don't know which one I should look for.

The last thing I want to do is waste time and money for a degree from a school whose credits won't transfer.

Most likely a reputable school whose credits will be recognized basically anywhere will belong to one of those regional accreditation organizations. You should be able to contact the admissions office of any school and ask about their regional accreditation.

Within each department at a university or college, there are likely to be additional accreditations from other organizations. Often those organizations are professional ones who want to make sure the quality of that department really is worthy of the profession.

You do have to be careful with proprietary online schools. It is true that they are not all accredited by those regional groups. You could spend a lot of money and end up with a degree that others look at as nothing more than part of a diploma mill. Many (if not most) well accredited public and private schools now have online courses.
