Me and My girlfriend stopped smoking 1.5 years ago.

I was 25 she was 24, I had been smoking a pack a day since I was 17 her a pack every other day for about 4 years. We quit cold turkey, no help.

It came down to us wanting out of debt, and smoking didn't fit into our budget, and that was back when cigs were 3-4$ a pack, and not the 5-7.50$ a pack in florida these days. The end of week 1 was the roughest for me, and the mornings of week 1 were the roughest for her. Now I can't even stand to be around smokers, I find it un-attractive, and gross.

It all comes down to will-power and the want to quit.

You can't make someone quit, that themself don't want to quit, that's with anything in life.

That is extremely addictive, and they add extra chemicals to make it burn.

It's funny, my hubby and I both smoke, he smokes ciggs, and I smoke weed...and when either of us runs out, it's hilarious...because I can go without smoking, it's not that addictive for me, I enjoy a toke, but would not rob someone or pawn anything for it, I don't "freak" out...my hubby on the other hand, get's very irritated, cant go without smoking, and gets terrible headaches...I tease him all the time and tell him he smokes drugs...we joke because he tries to clown me on the marijuana...but that's never made me feel like the ciggs have made him feel...it's practically a vegetable!

i always looked at cigarettes as a total peer pressure drug. When it comes to hard drugs, and I don't do either.. but I get why people take heroine. It makes sense because their down in the dumps. Cigarettes is purely marketed on peer pressure. Most people I know who took up smoking, at some point where trying to "fit into" society and were offered it and just took a hold of it.

Giving up anything that you are addicted to is hard. Some people find it harder than others due to an addictive personality and you will find these are the people that may stop smoking cigarettes but will then start smoking marijuana or eating sweets or gambling.

Nicotine is the only thing in cigarettes that causes addiction..!!
But one can quit smoking easily if he mentally prepare himself for quitting it and also use one of those nicotine products like nicotine patches, gums and tablets which will help them to keep away from you..!!

Basically the people who smoke are idiots who have been addicted since an early age. They smoke because they were showing off when they was a child and thought that cigerettes made them look like an adult. They carry on smoking. Spending all of their hard earned cash on ciggies.
The more intelligent of us took up beer as an addiction.

Youth has lack of experience and consequences working against it. They don't consider the cost, addiction, and health ramifications.

You don't hear about too many 40-50 year olds who suddenly decide they want to start smoking, because they know about the risks and costs.

                    Hi,

Just wanna share. I started smoking when I was a teenager too. It's not really addictive if you really want to quit. I'm not a chain smoker. As of now, I only smoke probably once in two days. I can quit anytime I want. I remember not having cigarette for like a year, but since I like it and I'm still young, I'm doing it but I promise myself I will quit smoking when I start to make a family.

                    Reasons for smoking
                    1. I like it. Really.
                    2. After meal, it feels so good.
                    3. While in the restroom.
                    4. If I'm mad or angry about something, cigarettes helps me to relax.
                    5. Relaxation / Relieving stress

And many more. If you want to quit and you can't quit, seek professional advise.

PS. I don't spend a lot on smoking, I know a friend who has a smoking shop and he sells me $1 for 1 pack. And that will lasts about 1-2 months.

I think smoking is worst thing which kids and adults do with their bodies. It contains nicotine which is only thing that causes addiction. It time to stop smoking because it effects badly human health and fitness. It destroys human life easily.

Surely it cannot be the flavor, otherwise they'd make cigarette flavored gum, breath mints, ice cream, Doritos, steak sauce...

Every 6.5 seconds a current or former smoker dies,
Round 6 million deaths a year are caused by tobacco.
Smoking is set to kill 6.5 million people in 2015 and 8.3 million humans in 2030, with the biggest rise in low-and middle-income countries.
so I just suggest to all my friend who's like to smoke the cigarette please give up the smoking for staying healthy and saving money.
Personally, I don't have a problem with adults smoking, provided I can enjoy businesses and public areas without smoke, and that smokers do not expose the smoke to children in their homes or cars. By the time we're at the legal age to buy and enjoy cigarettes, we'll have enough knowledge in our skulls to weigh the risks/benefits/costs of smoking or any other activity. It is really just a matter of the individual making the best choice based on that information.

If we have people starting smoking younger than that, then there is a major problem, because they lack the maturity to make an informed decision, and sometimes cave in to peer pressure. So I am all for limiting underage smoking for this reason.

For me, seeing and hearing at age 15 my grandpa snake a flexible tube through my grandma's trach hole and suctioning mucus from her lungs was enough to convince me that while smoking might give me awesome flavor pleasure, and make me look cool (horrible breath and yellow teeth aside), it wasn't something I'd be following through on. Maybe I was lucky: I was able to make that decision before age 18!

Smoking is an addiction. So people can hardly get rid of it. Young generation also take cigarettes for show.

Nicotine is the addictive drug that is present in good proportion in cigarettes and this leads to addiction of cigarettes for a person who smokes it. It is really injurious to health still some find it to be cool or stress buster, but Cigarettes are creating a lot of pressure on the heart and make your lungs useless and turn black, it is not only harmful for you but it is harmful for other surrounding you as well.
