    They charge to pick up recycling in our town because it is a private company that picks up trash and recycling. That is the reason we chose to use the transfer station - I couldn't see paying over $600 a year to do something we could do for $100 a year.

      I don't know exactly how it works here but we also have a private company pick up our trash and recycling. They are contracted with the township to do the work. We pay for it through our taxes.

        My trash service picks them up for free. They provide the containers all I have to do is have them at the road on Friday morning.

          $600 per year? My lord where is that? Ours runs us $58.36 per year or $14.95 per quarter.

                  Here in Chicago we get free blue bins specially designated for all recyclables free of charge
