  • Earth Hour -- who is participating?

    Earth Hour

Millions of people will turn off their lights for an hour to make a statement about energy usage and climate change. It happens March 29 at 8pm local time.

We'll be out of town for the day-so all the power strips, lights, etc. will be off anyway.

heh, you made me worry I had the date all wrong!

I actually stopped to check my calendar before finishing the thread!

as to turning things off...not to sure I can convince my husband not to be on the computer (8pm is when the kids go to bed, so perfect for grown up time wasters)

Couldn't this cause problems with power surges and such when people turn the lights back on?

Oh, and the NCAA tournament is on then. I bet lots of people plan on doing it, but forget or can't convince their SO to turn the TV off.

If I remember to, I'll try to participate. If I get bored I'll go outside and enjoy the light pollution, or loiter at the local High Fructose Corn Syrup Emporium.

I didn't participate! I live in the forrest away from the city so felt weird to do it all alone in the middle of nowhere.

My household participated in Earth hour. I confess I peeked outside to see if anyone else on our street was doing it (my city's mayor is noisy/determined about climate action). My family was happy to give up electricity for the hour, although the Boyservant Hecubus became overexcited and bouncy by the change, so at 9:00:10 PM the Lord and Master of Darkness put the lights back on.
