Re: Test your typing speed
34 wpm, 1 mistake.
Obviously I am not a typist.
What does the cpm abbreviation mean? I did not even pay attention to it when I saw mine."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

Re: Test your typing speed
I think it's very impressive, since... I can't type well at all unless the conditions are ideal.Originally posted by PrincessPerkynot going ot win any awards or anything, but I do way to much typing while nursing and or holding a kid......
The scary part is, according to some of the digg comments, there are some super fast typers out there! After about 10 tries, I average around 100WPM and 1 to 3 mistakes. The only thing I can "complain" about is that I'm typing on the work keyboard, not my own.

Re: Test your typing speed
well according to Wki., you all spend too much time on a keyboard!
Course I am wondering why 33 and 19 seem to be for the same thing?????
In one study of average computer users, the average rate for transcription was 33 words per minute, and only 19 words per minute for transcription.[1] In the same study, when the group was dividing into "fast", "moderate" and "slow" groups, the average speeds were 40wpm, 35wpm, and 23wpm respectively. Two-finger typists, sometimes also referred to as "Hunt-and-Peck" typists can reach speeds of about 37wpm for memorized text, and 27wpm when copying text.[2]
An average typist reaches 50 to 70wpm, while some positions can require 80 to 95 (usually the minimum required for dispatch positions and other typing jobs), and some advanced typists work at speeds above 120.
As of 2005, Barbara Blackburn is the fastest typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records. Using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard, she has maintained 150 wpm for 50 minutes, 170 wpm for shorter periods of time, and has been clocked at a peak speed of 212 wpm. Blackburn failed her typing class in high school, first encountered the Dvorak keyboard in 1938, quickly learned to achieve very high speeds, and occasionally toured giving speed-typing demonstrations during her secretarial career. more here

Re: Test your typing speed
there's a difference in typing something you're reading (the 33 wpm) and something that's being read to you (the transciption at 19 wpm). about 70% of american's are visual learners and would therefore be faster typing something they were reading as opposed to something they were hearing.

Re: Test your typing speed
That's really impressive, and yet, that's exactly what some of the diggers are claiming! However, they didn't specify if they're using standard qwerty or not. For Dvorak, I can see how Ms. Blackburn was able to type so fast.Originally posted by PrincessPerkyAs of 2005, Barbara Blackburn is the fastest typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records. Re: Test your typing speed
Hehe. My high school typing teacher didn't like me. She was nice, but she was old-schooled in that it was more important to type perfectly than it was to type fast. I averaged 70+WPM back in high school, but I consistently made mistakes.Originally posted by JanHtried it! Got 90.66wpm, 409.09 cpm--1 mistake.
Thanks again Mrs. McClure -- high school typing teacher!
Nowadays, you don't find too many people emphasizing perfection since it's very easy to correct mistakes on a computer.
