Re: How many online communities do you call 'home'?

I am an active poster on Sparkpeople (weight loss/healthy living)
*I probably wouldn't be such an active poster if it wasn't for the fact that I am a team leader in a weight loss challenge and I am a Community Team Member where I have to meet certain requirements each week to keep my status.

I am an active lurker/occasional poster on:
    Television Without Pity
a number of forums on Delphi (Isle of Whack, Frugal Living, Social Blunders, No More Debt)
    Saving Advice

I picked 4 but really it's more like seven, a few Jane Austen websites, a history related one, email, here, and a fitness website or two.

Have made some great RL friends through online things though.

Re: How many online communities do you call 'home'?

I can only have 1 online home at a time - LOL.

I made my foray with trying to conceive and pregnancy message boards. Those got ugly once we had our babies so I found a couple of local mom communities. A lot of us had made our friends and moved on. So I settled in MySpace for a while. Now this is my home. I don't even feel like I have enough hours in the day, and a made a rule a while back to have one main online place. I found it quickly snowballed out of control and I would spend way too much online, when my original forums and message boards snowballed into 20 off-shoots. I just don't do off-shouts anymore unless I am ready to jump ship. (This seems to be a mom message board thing since the women can get along more than 5 minutes - LOL). I think all of my past homes were very productive to where I was in my life, and now I am focusing on financial things, I hope to stay here a while. But it has been an interesting ride. I actually was very interested in an online book discussion community but just did not have the time to do all the reading and thinking to keep up. Dipped my toes in an online gaming forum and a weight loss forum. But I never settled so much in those though I may want to down the road. I guess I put my all into one place so that is about my limit. But there is just so much out there...

I said '2'. I am an admin and long time staff member on a Harry Potter fansite for adults (don't roll your eyes, we have fascinating discussions!), and in addition to that, I constantly read SavingAdvice (although I'm not as prolific here).

I read SA daily but don't necessarily post of blog daily or even weekly.
I also belong to a site for American expats in a certain country that I am interested in.

This is the only one i check in on nearly every weekday.

There are a variety of others, perhaps a half dozen, that i browse from time to time, but i dont' participate nearly as much as i do here and i dont' feel i 'know' the people there like i do here.

So much info, so little time...

Hmmm, I have a lot of newsletters sent to my email during the week, mostly those with a frugal theme. I think it's Frugal for Life that I find most interesting, then Savings Advice. I'm into gardening and cooking right now, so I check them often (I get a lot from about.com). I have health/fitness stuff sent to my email also. I don't post all that often to any of them.

What I find most valuable is Paltalk almost nightly for an on-line bible class my pastors hold from 7-8 p.m. EST - Discerning the Times or the MidActs Dispensationalism room. We have Q&A afterword so these rooms aren't chaotic, it's truly like a classroom, it's solid teaching, and the troublemakers get kicked out immediately. There's so much junk in the chat rooms; these two are great.

Probably 7 or 8... I have a newsgroup folder and scroll each when I get bored. Mostly financial, a few soccer, and few fantasy football.

I'm actually homeless with lots of shelters, LOL.

I don't check this daily, just a few times a week.
I do check a local one in my city (same software as this site, it's surreal) daily.

I'm also on the Kiplinger Community one but it's really dead so I hardly ever go there.

Also on Freecycle and a couple small parenting ones.

Also on MySpace and Friendster altho I hardly ever go there.

Mostly I divide my online social time between the local city one, here, and the PF blogging community.

newly here, myspace, facebook, a local automotive forum, a local offtopic forum, a computer releated forum, another automotive forum, a local drift forum, an atlanta area drift forum and a few others. the ones listed i usually check daily.

                            *edit.

I also have 20 or so finacial blogs I check daily via Google Reader. If that counts.

Besides this forum, I belong to a purse forum. I also frequent a fashion forum but do not belong to it because it is invitation only and a religious forum.

I used to belong to a few jewelry making/hobby forums but due to lack of time I stopped jewelry making.
