Bad Checks Problem

I just registered in this forum to ask some advices and suggestion about bad checks. I recently received a bad check from a client and I do not know what to do first.

How can I recover my money and where can I ask for help? Thanks. I would deeply appreciate your reply.

The first course of action is to contact the client to make sure it wasn't a mistake (they happen). If he continues to refuse to pay, small claims court is an option.

My friend said I also must use that to recover my loses but I don't have any idea about it.
