how well does debt settlement work with Capital One?

  • #2
In a prior post, you said you were negotiating a settlement with a collection agency. Is this the same debt or a different one? If it is the same one, your aren't dealing with Capital One. You are dealing with a collection agency hired by Capital One. Make sure you get any settlement agreement in writing before you send a payment. Make sure you do not do anything that will give them access to your bank account information. Do not give them your account info and let them draw out the payment. Do not pay with a personal check that will give them your account information. Pay by money order or cashier's check only.

ETA: Once you've paid, keep copies of everything FOREVER to be able to prove that you paid in case anyone ever tries to collect that debt again.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Yes, it is the same one.
You made me think ... I guessed I went the wrong way from the very beginning

I suppose it depends on the amount of debt and how good the negotiator is? I'm not sure -but if they've already sent you a letter saying that they are taking legal action against you-with a reminder that you could settle your debt with them-take it as a signal to negotiate a settlement.* I heard that they really do sue debtors.
